Fans can’t wait for part 2

Audiences made Part 1 incredibly quick and expressed how much they’re looking forward to the sequel on Twitter.

Well, at least viewers won’t have to wait until 2023! Check out a selection of tweets:

“It would be a completely different series”

However, not everyone is enamored with Money Heist Korea, and series director Kim Hong-sun recently reacted to the response that his show was too similar to its predecessor.

“Our series was a remake of the hit Spanish drama,” he told the Korea Herald. “I believe the process of creating a remake involves retaining the characteristics of the original, telling the story of the previous production, but using a different cast and setting.”

He went on to explain the creative choice to refer to the original:

“If these elements are not involved, then the series cannot be called a remake. If the gang doesn’t enter the mint, steal the mint, and complete their mission, then it’s not Money Heist. It would be a completely different series.

While there are strong similarities, there are a few tweaks to help recontextualize the story in response to the new setting which is welcome.

Money Heist: Korea is streaming exclusively on Netflix.
