Who is Christopher Scarver?

Christopher Scarver was a fellow inmate at Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin when Dahmer was incarcerated there in 1992.

On the morning of November 28, 1994, Scarver, Dahmer and another inmate, Jesse Anderson, were assigned to clean the prison gymnasium showers as part of their job. However, the trio were left unattended for 20 minutes, and during that time Scarver attacked both Dahmer and Anderson with a metal bar.

It was discovered that Dahmer had been bludgeoned in the head and face. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead an hour later. The Chicago Tribune reports that Scarver allegedly said after the attack, “God told me to do it.

Anderson also died from Scarver’s attack, succumbing to his injuries two days later.

In a 2015 interview with the New York Post, Scarver opened up about his experiences with Dahmer, saying, “He crossed the line with some people — prisoners, prison staff. Some people who are in jail repent – but he wasn’t one of them.

Why was Christopher Scarver in jail to begin with?

Christopher Scarver was already serving a life sentence for murder when he killed Jeffrey Dahmer.

Scarver was part of a vocational training program with the Wisconsin Conservation Corps when he was fired in 1990.

In response to losing his job, Scarver returned to the workplace with a gun on June 1, 1990, and demanded money from supervisor Steven Lohman and site manager John Feyen.

When Scarver only received $15, he shot Lohman in the head to kill him and shot him twice more after he died.

Scarver was sentenced to life in prison for the murder and was sent to Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin in 1992.

Where is Christopher Scarver now?

As of 2022, 53-year-old Christopher Scarver is still in prison — at the Centennial Correctional Facility in Colorado.

After killing Dahmer and Anderson, Scarver received two more life sentences without the possibility of parole, which will keep him behind bars for the rest of his life.

In 2003, Scarver was moved from Wisconsin to Colorado after 36 inmates filed a class action lawsuit over conditions at the Wisconsin jail.

In recent years, Scarver has turned to poetry and songwriting and has even self-published a number of poetry books.

According to Scarver’s biography in his 2015 book, The Child Left Behind, he wants to go to college to study mechanical and electrical engineering as part of the American Prisoner Repatriation Act initiative.

In 2012, a representative for Scarver reportedly sought a publisher for a tell-all book about Scarver’s murder of Dahmer and their interactions in prison – although no book deal was announced.
