What happened at the end of Vikings Valhalla season 2, and did Leif, Freydis or Harald die in the finale of episode 8?
The highly successful Vikings sequel series, titled Vikings: Valhalla, has finally made its long-awaited return with Season 2 making its world premiere on January 12th.
While there’s plenty of chopping, oath-breaking, and political maneuvering at play, it doesn’t take long for avid fans to watch the entire 8-episode second season.
Here is a quick explanation of Vikings Valhalla season 2 ending; the question on every fan’s mind being whether Leif, Frieydis or Harald made it out of the finale alive.

Vikings Valhalla Season 2 Ending Explained
After Jorundr manages to trick the invading army into attempting an attack through the port, the young sailor is sadly killed in battle to take the sentry catapult, but the group are able to signal the rest of Olaf’s ships. .
As Olaf arrives at the port, he is blissfully unaware of the trap he has just led his men into. Freydis sneakily removes the caps from submarine jars containing flammable oil; which she subsequently torches, completely destroying all of Olaf’s remaining ships and men.
The two then face off in a brutal back-and-forth battle on the shore, as King Kanute’s son, Svein, looks on in dismay. Luckily, Freydis is able to get the better of his longtime foe and pierces a spear through his armpit, thrusting the weapon to the other side of his torso. ironically ‘crucify’ the Christian warlord.
Meanwhile, Leif and Harold return to their encampment to be met by a company of soldiers from Constantinople; much to Harold’s dismay, the city’s iconic ruler, Emperor Romanos, personally traveled to meet him.
However, the reason for Romanos’ interest in the party is not for the jewel worn by Eleana, but for Eleana herself as she is betrothed to the Emperor. Understandably frustrated with her hidden identity, Eleana explains how she had to keep her identity a secret so Harold could curry favor with the incredibly wealthy and powerful Romanos.
Back in Kattegat, Queen Ælfgifu is surprised to welcome home her son Svein, who seems to enter the great hall out of nowhere. Luckily, he had the Faith Keeper to guide him, and Freydis removes his clock to reveal himself to the future queen.

Freydis explains how this alignment signifies peace between their two factions, to which Queen Ælfgifu nods in agreement as she kisses Svein; Freydis takes one last look at the place she used to call home and steps out the main door.
Season 2 of Vikings Valhalla ends with the arrival of Leif and Harold in the city of Constantinople.
Great news for Viking Valhalla fans, the excellent series has already been renewed for Season 3 by Netflix.
The announcement was made in March 2022 alongside confirmation that Season 2 would go into production – a targeted release date has yet to be shared for Season 3.
