Where was The School for Good and Evil filmed?

October 18, 2022

This article is about “Where was the Netflix movie The School for Good and Evil filmed” and contains no spoilers.

The School of Good and Evil is the long-awaited fantasy gothic film of the year. With a star-studded cast, this movie is sure to be the magic we need this season. Realized by Paul Feig (A simple favor, ghost hunters, To spy) and produced by Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Paul Feig, Jane Startz and Laura Fischer, The School for Good and Evil is the story of two best friends, Sophie and Agatha, who attend an enchanted school that trains heroes and villains budding, all trained to guard the balance between good and evil. The twist – these best friends end up on opposite sides. Will their friendship survive?

Based on the best-selling young adult fantasy book series by Soman Chainani the books are geared towards a younger audience, but I think the movie will adapt that a bit and make this movie suitable for all audiences. Hopefully it will be a great mix of light humor and serious darkness and cover a lot of topics throughout.

Since the successes of Harry Potter and Once upon a time, fantasy fans need something new to bite their teeth into and fire up their imaginations. From the trailer alone, this movie might just be the magic tonic we all need. Surprisingly, this movie was originally supposed to shoot and release around Christmas 2017, so fans are looking forward to this movie. Pushback has been said to be a number of things, but we’re just glad it’s finally hitting our screens!

Where was the Netflix movie The School for Good and Evil filmed – a breakdown of locations

  • Belfast, Northern Ireland.
  • Mount Stewart, County Down, Ireland.
  • Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland.
  • St. Anne’s Cathedral, Northern Ireland.

The film was shot in several locations in Belfast, Northern Irelandthe four main locations are listed above and include Belfast Harbor Studios and Loop movie studios. In the first, the 125,000 square feet (11,600 m2) of studio, workshop and offices were used.

Local locations used for filming include St Peter’s Church, Big Dog Forest, Woodburn Forest, Castle Archdale and Antrim Road.

Derry was considered but not used – there is no explanation as to why.

Many huge productions such as Game of Thrones and Derry Girls have been filmed in Northern Ireland which is no surprise as they have beautiful scenery, many hidden castles, detailed churches and locals who leave the filming alone .

The success of Game of Thrones was huge for the country; they now have tours of filming locations. Hopefully The School for Good and Evil will follow in those footsteps, and as the franchise grows, we may be able to take tours of their filming locations in the future.

Huge films like this are a real vote of confidence in Northern Ireland’s screen industry and further enhance its reputation as a leading center for film and television production. I can’t wait to see what will be filmed there in the future.
