October 12, 2022

If the past few years have shown us anything, it’s that writer and director Mike Flanagan has become a master of the horror genre.

Since 2018, Netflix fans have been treated to four chilling Flanagan series, including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass. The latest is The Midnight Club which follows a group of young adults who live in a strange hospice.

Throughout the series, the locations on display almost become characters in themselves, but where exactly was The Midnight Club filmed and is Brightcliffe Hospice an actual location?

Where was The Midnight Club filmed?

The Midnight Club was filmed in and around the city of Burnaby and the greater Vancouver area in British Columbia, Canada.

Filming for the project began on March 15, 2021, and lasted approximately six months until production wrapped on September 10 later that year.

The central location used to film the series was The Bridge Studios, located at 2400 Boundary Road in Burnaby and hosting 13 impressive sound stages.

Other locations featured in the series according to local news site Delta Optimist include Ladner Village, a market just 20 minutes from Vancouver, and Ladner United Church.

In addition to this, the beaches of Spanish Banks in Vancouver played a key role in the series’ beach scenes while nearby Surrey also hosted some filming.

Fans hoping for spooky tours will be disappointed to learn that Brightcliffe Hospice isn’t an actual location and was created for the series. The building has even changed its name from the original books where it is known as Rotterham Home.

Other productions shot in Burnaby

Burnaby and the Greater Vancouver Area has become an extremely popular filming location over the years thanks to financial incentives offered by the local government.

As such, Vancouver has become known to many as Hollywood North.

According to IMDb, more than 700 titles have been filmed in Burnaby with some of the most notable productions including Supernatural, The Good Doctor, Netflix’s recent series Devil in Ohio, Virgin River, Yellowjackets as well as 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion.

On top of that, Mike Flanagan’s previous series, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass, were all filmed in and around town.
