Since the publication of the original novel in 1928, All Quite On The Western Front has been considered a seminal work in the anti-war genre.
Several film adaptations of the book have been produced over the decades, including the 1930s Oscar-winning effort, and now Netflix is gearing up to release its own version which is billed for Oscar glory itself as the entry for the Germany for the best international feature film.
The film’s early reviews praised its gritty realism which is aided by its hellish filming locations which bring the horror of the trenches to the screen – but where exactly was 2022’s All Quiet On The Western Front shot?

All Quiet On The Western Front release date and plot preview
All Quiet On The Western Front explodes onto Netflix on Friday, October 28, 2022, after limited release in select theaters.
Based on the legendary novel by Erich Maria Remarque, the film tells the story of Paul Bäumer, a young German soldier who enlists in the army after being inspired by a wave of patriotic fervor at home.
However, Paul’s desire to see action and fight for his country is quickly stifled when he experiences the realities of trench warfare for himself.
With more of his comrades falling with each battle, Paul has no choice but to keep fighting to satisfy the military’s top brass as talks of an armistice fail.
Where was All Quiet On The Western Front filmed?
All Quiet On The Western Front was filmed primarily in and around Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.
Filming for the epic wartime story began in March 2021 and wrapped after three grueling months in May of the same year.
The city of Prague hosted the majority of the production according to the Prague Reporter which detailed some of the specific locations used.
Barrandov Studios on the southern outskirts of Prague was one of the main filming locations, while the team also ventured into surrounding towns and villages.
They include Milovice, Králův Dvůr, Libušín, Vinařice, Benátky nad Jizerou, Lišany, Chotýšany and Luštěnice.
In addition to this, the castles of Liběchov, Hořín and Brody, as well as the historical castles of Točník and Sychrov also served as notable places.
Away from Prague, further filming took place at Chotěšov Abbey in the Plzeň region while Ústí nad Labem, Žatec, Roudnice nad Labem, Buškovice, Postoloprty and Černochov were also used by the production team.
IMDb also states that some scenes were also shot in Belgium and Germany.
Other projects shot in Prague
Prague and the surrounding areas have been extremely popular with filmmakers in recent years thanks, in part, to the financial incentives offered to film in the area.
According to IMDb, more than 2,700 productions have used the location for filming some of the most notable movies and TV shows, including Netflix’s The Gray Man, Prime Video’s The Wheel Of Time and the Jack Ryan series.
On top of that, the James Bond film Casino Royale filmed footage in and around Prague, as did Spider-Man: Far From Home, fellow anti-war film Jojo Rabbit, and the TV series Das Boot and World On Fire.
