There’s no place like Middle-earth, is there?
JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novels are some of the most beloved books ever written, especially in the realm of fantasy literature, and took us into magical lands long before The Rings of Power.
Thankfully, those books were translated to the screen by director Peter Jackson, and to this day, the trilogy is considered one of the greatest of all time. He then returned to the franchise to adapt The Hobbit into a trilogy, but things were quiet after The Battle of the Five Armies.
Alas, Amazon has now given audiences a groundbreaking series from showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay.
It began its premiere in September, and fans were recently treated to the epic season finale, complete with gorgeous music. Speaking of which, what’s the song in episode 8 of The Rings of Power?

What is the song in episode 8 of The Rings of Power?
The song that plays at the end of episode 8 is called Where the Shadows Lie and is performed by singer-songwriter Fiona Apple and Bear McCreary.
The Radio Times reports that the lyrics were written by Tolkien and were inspired by one of his poems:
Three rings for the elven kings under heaven, seven for the dwarven lords in their halls of stone, nine for mortal men doomed to die, one for the dark lord on his dark throne, in the land of Mordor where the shadows lie, One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in darkness bind them, To the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
His debut album Tidal was released in 1996 and features singles such as Criminal; his other albums include When the Pawn, Extraordinary Machine, The Idler Wheel… and Fetch the Bolt Cutters.
You can find his music on streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify, as well as Where the Shadows Lie as part of The Rings of Power official soundtrack.

“A crazy dream come true”
Co-showrunner Patrick acknowledged Fiona’s song during a recent conversation with the Radio Times and its connection to the narrative:
“The second season is about a lot more rings, you know. In the song at the end, [by] Fiona Apple – who is like a crazy dream come true – there are Three, then there are Seven. Why would the Dwarves desperately need rings? And how are they seduced? And how are they fooled?
He continued: “And then Men, it’s an even more complex story. There are Nine leaders of Men who want power. And so each of these rings and their forging is not just like, ‘Now the magic thing has been done’, but it’s a story to tell…”
The Rings of Power streams exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
