What happened to David Dahmer? Fate of Jeffrey Dahmer’s brother

September 22, 2022

Netflix has become the real hotbed of true-crime stories in recent years and while most of their endeavors have been documentaries, the streamer’s latest offering is a full-fledged drama series that tells the story of Jeffrey Dahmer.

The new series details the nefarious acts that led to Dahmer becoming known as the Milwaukee Cannibal while exploring the lives of his victims and the circumstances that perpetuated the brutal killing.

Jeffrey Dahmer’s childhood features heavily on the show, but his brother, David, is a notable absence from the drama.

Who is Jeffrey Dahmer’s brother?

Jeffrey Dahmer’s brother was born in December 1966 shortly after the family moved from Wisconsin to Ohio.

Dahmer’s parents allowed Jeffrey to choose his younger brother’s name, deciding on David.

Born six years apart, the boys “had fun like brothers,” their father Lionel said in a 2004 interview with Larry King. But there was always a “difference of interests” while they were growing up.

Other sources, however, reported that Jeffrey resented his younger brother for attracting more attention from his parents.

What happened to David Dahmer?

After Lionel and Joyce Dahmer divorced in 1978, David lived with his mother and relatives in Wisconsin for a time after she was granted custody.

Following the revelation of Jeffrey’s crimes, David changed his name, took on a new identity, and retired from public life.

David has never been in any media appearances and he is not referenced in the new Netflix series.

In the 2004 interview with Larry King, Lionel explained, “We promised to keep it completely secret.”

However, David’s mother-in-law, Shari Dahmer, gave some details about his situation, revealing that he has a stable career and is expecting his second child.
