Vinland Saga season 2 episode 4 was one of the season’s best, with fans seeing new facets Thorfinn (Yuto Uemura) and Einar (Shunsuke Takeuchi). After showing off his impressive warrior instincts, Thorfinn found himself confused and remorseful. However, learning about his troubled past only seemed to upset Einar. It was interesting to see these characters in a new light while getting a brief glimpse of the action. Whether this episode will affect Thorfinn and Einar’s relationship remains to be seen, but hopefully the fallout won’t be too negative.
- Snake berates the guards for “bullying the slaves” as Thorfinn’s wounds are bandaged. He apologizes to Thorfinn for the behavior of his men before suddenly rushing towards him.
- Serpent attacks Thorfinn. Thorfinn dodges and shocks everyone when he is able to defend himself.
- Snake tells Thorfinn that by dodging his attack, his body is telling him he wants to live. Thorfinn can’t understand why he would want to live.
- Pater corrects Thorfinn while Einar complains about the unfairness of the situation. Thorfinn says they can’t do anything, because “the strongest kill the weakest.” This upsets Einar.
- Pater calms Einar by apologizing and revealing that Arnheid informed him of what was going on.
- Thorfinn and Einar return to work.
- Einar thinks back to the fight and Thorfinn’s earlier statement about the strong killing the weak. He becomes curious about Thorfinn’s past.
- Einar asks Thorfinn if he’s ever been to war. Thorfinn gets irritated at first, but then reveals that he doesn’t remember how many people he killed, as he was raised to be a warrior from childhood.
- Thorfinn asks Einar if knowing that disgusts him, but we don’t see his response.
- That night, Einar lays awake, and the more he thinks about what Throfinn said earlier, the angrier he grows until he reaches out to strangle Thorfinn in his sleep.
- As Einar backs away, Thorfinn finds himself stuck in a nightmare of war. Finally, Einar wakes him up, which confuses Thorfinn.
- Einar grabs Thorfinn, wondering why he wants to die so much when things could be so much worse for them.
- As Einar turns to walk away from Thorfinn, Thorfinn thanks him for always waking him up from his nightmares.
- The episode ends with an older Canute walking through a graveyard.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 5 Release Date and Time
Episode 5 is set to release on Netflix and Crunchyroll on Monday, February 6, 2023. Release time is 11:30 a.m. ET. Episode 5 is titled “Path of Blood” and will run for approximately 23 minutes.

Predictions
I was right to assume that Snake would be testing Thorfinn’s skills last week, but I never could have guessed that he would do it quite like this. What he does with knowledge of Thorfinn’s skills will be interesting. However, nothing could be more curious than Canute’s return as viewers wonder what he’s been up to since we last saw him.
- The last time we saw Canute, Thorfinn attacked him. I have a feeling Canute is the reason Thorfinn is currently in slavery, and that will be confirmed in the next episode.
- If we see Canute, I imagine Thorkill isn’t far behind him. While we don’t yet know what Canute is up to, I wouldn’t be surprised if Thorkill traveled with him as well.
