The season premiere of Vinland Saga Season 2 surprised fans by introducing them to a new character while still managing to hook them with a compelling narrative. In the end, it paid off, because Einar (Shunsuke Takeuchi) the story took viewers straight to Thorfinn (Yuto Uemura). While it’s clearly been a while since the events of the first season took place, it barely feels like time has passed. It will be interesting to learn what Thorfinn has been up to and how his and Einar’s stories will intertwine from here.
- The episode opens with a young man named Einar training in the forest. His mother and sister, Lotta, tease him, but Einar feels compelled to protect the village after the many raids it has suffered in the past.
- The village is looted. Einar and his family try to escape, but his mother is shot in the back.
- Einar and Lotta are captured, but Lotta is killed after trying to stab one of her captors.
- Einar is sold into slavery but does not fully realize the nature of his situation until he watches a woman being thrown overboard from the boat he is on. He makes a promise to himself by refusing to die.
- After landing and preparing for the sale, Einar attempts to flee. He is soon caught after breaking into a cottage and setting an example in front of the other slaves. Here, the slave traders encourage them to accept their fate, because they won’t make it alone.
- A man named Leif comes to the slave market looking for a blond young man named Thorfinn. The slave traders mistake him for Einar, but when Leif denies this, they attempt to sell Einar instead. However, Leif is not interested in buying slaves, only in finding a family member.
- As Einar watches Leif leave, a tall blond man approaches, asking to inspect him. He then offers Einar a job on his farm.
- As they walk around the farm, Einar’s new owner calls a young man named Thorfinn.
- Einar immediately recognizes him as the man Leif was looking for at the market.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 2 Release Date and Time
Episode 2 is set to release on Netflix and Crunchyroll on Monday, January 16, 2023. Release time is 11:30 a.m. AND. Episode 2 is titled “Ketil’s Farm” and will run for approximately 23 minutes.

Predictions
Even though Vinland Saga is based on real historical figures, it is not a direct interpretation of their stories. While that makes the story less easy to predict, the previews for episode two gave us at least some work to do. We should have enough to make some good guesses.
- From what he looks like, Ketil seems like a pretty reasonable owner. I imagine there will be a bit of a learning curve for Einar, though, and that’s probably how he and Thorfinn will grow closer.
- There was a woman in the preview who seemed to catch someone’s eye. If I had to guess, since we seem to be focusing on Einar, it will be him who develops feelings. Given her appearance, however, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that she’s related to Ketil in some way, making her untouchable.
