True Story series review – a thrilling race that’s hard to take your eyes off

November 20, 2021

This review of the Netflix limited series True Story is spoiler-free.

Starring Kevin Hart as “The Kid”, a famous comic book, true story follows him on a groundbreaking tour when a tragic mistake on a night out with his brother Carlton (Wesley Snipes) threatens to destroy everything he has worked for until this point.

The trailer does a great job of just giving a glimpse of what will happen in True story. With “The Kid” labeled as one of Hollywood’s brightest stars, his journey begins as being very jealous. Even one of the supporting characters says, “It must be nice to be a celebrity.” That is until he becomes one of the most outrageous.

After starring in a film that grossed more than a billion dollars at the box office, “The Kid” begins a tour before stopping in his hometown of Philadelphia. But their feast night quickly turns fatal, and the next morning the brothers have a body to get rid of. But that’s not even the exciting part; what follows is what will keep the audience hooked to the screen. While waking up next to a corpse after a crazy night of partying has already been done several times, true story and the range of characters give a feeling of freshness. As a result, all seven episodes are a cinch to get through. With all episodes lasting around half an hour (except the first episode, which lasts an hour), true story could definitely be watched in one sitting.

From the visionary behind Narcos, true story gets darker with each episode. In the limited series there is a beautiful story, violence and, therefore, a captivating journey. Some of the twists and turns along the way are also really shocking; there are moments that will definitely keep the public on their toes. Even as we come to the end of 2021, Netflix may have just released one of their strongest limited series.
