Trolley season 1 episode 15 recap
Between the visuals of Hye-joo’s TV appearance, where she speaks her truth about the Seung-ho casewe watch her question Joong-do about the other lies he may have told. “I don’t forgive you any of this” the book conservator said, although her husband denies any other wrongdoing. Hye-joo is brave in her public statement, acknowledging that she never wanted her attacker to kill himself and accepting that the other half of her deputy will have to answer questions about Ji-hoon’s alleged offenses with quiet dignity. “I will never run away again” is the powerful final statement.
Amid Joong-do’s pleas for Hye-joo to postpone their divorce until Namgoong Sol’s law is passed, the book restorer receives a call regarding Yeo-jin’s suicide attempt. Fortunately, the restaurateur will live, but a tense air persists, and the assembly are asked to leave the hospital due to his wife’s insecurity that the two might want to “go to bed.” Also, Hye-joo asks that Yoon Seo is kept in the dark about this ordeal.
After apologizing to Woo-jae for falsely accusing him of being involved in Ji-hoon’s death, Joong-do thinks back to his dead son. Meanwhile, Hye-joo answers a call from Yoon-seo, which leads him to discover that public opinion has turned in his favor. The student expresses remorse for thinking that his mother might have lied about his past.
As Seung-hee tries to get a reporter to interview him and Hye-joo simultaneously, we see that support for the much-requested Joong-do is at a new high (he has already reached his annual donation limit). Somewhere else, Jin Seok listens to party members debate whether Daehan should support Namgoong Sol’s law, now he has public support.
What is the truth in episode 15?
When Woo-jae admits he already knew about Joong-do’s affair, Hye-joo decides she won’t accept the former reporter’s offer to stay by Yeo-jin’s side instead. . Unfortunately, that means the book restorer can be spotted in the ER by none other than Seung-hee. In the meantime, Da-som defends Yoon-seo at school, and Soo Bin tearfully listens to live streamers lying to get attention claiming that Ji-hoon assaulted them.
As soon as Yeo-jin wakes up, Hye-joo rips his former friend apart. The book restorer wonders if the potential sale of the restaurant was so the alleged adulterer could “run away” now that she’s been caught and asks how much she must have been hated, criticizing the person once so close to her. Still, all of this only drives Yeo-jin to tell the truth that Joong-do raped her. “You are out of your mind,” is Hye-joo’s surprising response.
After a flashback showed the severe torment Yeo-jin suffered when Joong-do begged her to forgive him (and swore him to secrecy), we also see that the restaurateur had decided to “everything forget” for Hye-joo’s sake. Still, the book restorer remains confused, wondering why her friend initially called the assault a case, in addition to wanting an explanation for the conversation Ji-hoon overheard.
Once that was clarified – Yeo-jin confronted Joong-do about the laissez-faire he was addressing in his study and the “mistake” for which he apologized – Hye-joo apologized for to reflect on. This, in turn, causes the book restorer to realize the truth, causing her to panic. With her composure regained, Hye-joo heads back inside, upset that she had no idea of the pain Yeo-jin was dealing with.
After that ?
As Hye-joo and Yeo-jin reconcile with a moving apology, Joong-do listens to a reporter speak lyrically about the importance of the assembly caring about those less fortunate. However, there seems to be some guilt that sets in when his filicide bill comes up, which means he has to focus on the person he took advantage of.
Continuing, Yeo-jin tells her friend that she won’t report Joong-do. Mainly because it’s been five years, there’s no evidence, and she “knows how hard it is to be called a liar”, but also because the deputy had helped to Chae-eun’s filicide case. Meanwhile, Yoo-sin realizes that evidence of his illegal land speculation has been gathered.
After Seung-hee threatened to expose Joong-do’s sexual assault (she overheard Yeo-jin) if Hye-joo didn’t do an interview saying she lied about what Seung-ho told her In fact, the book restorer confronts her husband in labeling what he did as a “mistake”. Still, she is not ready to hear excuses, especially when the MP claims his guilt was the original reason he started ‘preaching’ Namgoong Sol’s law in the first place. “I thought passing this law would be my atonement,” Joong-do states, only to hear that he hasn’t repented, that he just betrayed his family and his constituents.
Angered, Hye-joo is stunned that her husband won’t surrender just so Namgoong Sol’s law can pass and becomes enraged at the mention of Yoon-seo. Then the restorer of books tells Joong-do a home truth that Ji-hoon mistakenly thought he was having an affair because he never believed his father would do something so hideous.
Hye-joo is torn
As a panicked Soo-bin tries to find Yeo-jin upon learning of his suicide attempt, Joong-do discovers that Woo-jae knew “everything” about his sexual assault. “If people find out about this, you won’t be able to deal with the consequences,” the former reporter had strangely said to Yeo-jin. We see in a quick flashback how determined the head supervisor was to “quietly handle” the potential scandal.
Afterwards, Woo-jae and Joong-do talk almost delusional about how they wish to “make the world a better place”, hoping that Hye-joo “stays silent”. Simultaneously, the book restorer encounters Jin-seok, exposing her husband with initial confidence. Afterwards, however, Hye-joo anxiously asks what she should do, given the whole context of the situation, and is told it’s best to remain silent, again for the sake of the law. by Namgoong Sol. Jin-seok goes on to explain that she believes Joong-do can bring meaningful change to the world, but others will think exposing his crimes would have the same impact. Thus, the ultimate decision on what to do is left to Hye-joo, who remains torn by her husband’s insistence on repentance.
When Soo-bin films Joong-do pleading for Yeo-jin’s silence, going so far as to say that he will retire from politics once Namgoong Sol’s law is passed, Woo-jae catches her in the act. He therefore deletes the video and warns the young girl against any attempt to publicize what she has heard. Following this, Soo-bin visits Yeo-jin and asks the restaurateur to phone the police. It’s a pretty intimidating request the way it’s made, though Hye-joo is thankfully on hand to calm the situation.
However, Soo-bin points the finger at Hye-joo, alleging that his TV appearance was the reason Ji-hoon was “turned” into an online serial sex offender. “If this (Joong-do’s crime) comes to light, it will be the end of Namgoong Sol’s law,” the book restorer responds when asked why she’s “suddenly turning a blind eye to the real truth”, obviously now somewhat swayed by the first-hand public support she’s seen for the bill’s amendment. Nonetheless, it’s easy to notice that Hye-joo isn’t quite sure what to do.
