This ’90s show sees the iconic Formans return to Eric’s basement in the sitcom revival

January 24, 2023

Originally airing in 1998, That 70s Show has gone on to become one of the most notable sitcoms of all time. Fans of the series will recognize more than just the set as they return to Point Place, Wisconsin, for the Netflix sequel That 90s Show.

Naturally, That 70s Show’s chaotic parents — Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty Forman (Debra Jo Rupp) — never left their beloved little Wisconsin home. Now, a few eras later, the Formans are grandparents and their granddaughter Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) has come over for a summer visit.

With the instantly recognizable basement occupied by a charming new cast of characters, That 90s Show promises to satisfy fans old and new.

Is Point Place really part of Wisconsin?

No. Point Place is not a real Wisconsin town.

It is a fictional city located between Green Bay and Milwaukee in the north-midwestern state of Wisconsin, United States.

The fictional town served as the setting for Eric (Topher Grace) and the gang in the original That 70s Show. Over the course of eight seasons, the teens got into all sorts of fun (and trouble). No matter what happened, they always regrouped in Eric’s basement, much to the dismay of his angry father, Red Forman.

Still trying to kill their boredom in the small town, the original series featured various parts of Point Place. From the drive-in theater to the mall to the police academy, over the years audiences have come to know the city as well as the characters.

However, the city is not the only familiar feature…

The return of familiar faces

The original series launched the careers of many notable actors and actresses. Fans of the classic ’70s-themed series will be delighted to see the return of several familiar faces.

You already know a lot – Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp reprise their roles as Red and Kitty Forman.

Iconic characters such as Donna (Laura Prepon) and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) return, no doubt teaching the teens a trick or two.

Prepon took to Twitter to share her snaps of the premier of the new Netflix series:

An adorable photo of the actress and co-star Debra Jo Rupp hugging each other is enough to warm anyone’s heart. How cute!

Alongside Prepon, her on-screen father, Bob Pinciotti, played by Don Stark, will star. Tommy Chong is set to return as the questionable character Leo. Topher Grace is confirmed to be reprising the role of Eric for one episode.

Hyde (played by Danny Masterson) will not return.

No sequel would be complete without at least one shot of Jackie Burkhart, played by now Hollywood superstar Mila Kunis. Her husband, Ashton Kutcher, will also reprise his role in the gang as Michael Kelso.

With this array of familiar and talented faces, there’s no doubt That 90s Show will bring Wisconsin’s small town of Point Place to life for a new audience.
