The Uncanny Counter season 2 confirmed by OCN

This is great news for The Uncanny Counter community; the hit Korean drama has indeed been renewed for Season 2 by OCN. According to The Korea Times, the OCN network said, “We have decided to produce the second season of ‘The Uncanny Counter.’ We are still working out the details, including the filming and broadcast schedule timeline.

Lead actor Cho Byeong-kyu added, “When I started filming this series, I hoped it would provide a sense of escape for struggling (pandemic) viewers. Although I am not perfect, I am grateful that I was able to help you through these difficult times.

“I started dreaming again because of The Uncanny Counter. I became able to smile sincerely and be myself in all circumstances. While working on the series, I changed my cell phone background to an image of the counters with the phrase “Do your best at all times, be grateful for what is given, be true to things you are facing, do not be afraid but be aware. I’m really grateful to my fellow actors who helped me be a better version of myself. — Kim Se-jeong, via The Korea Times.

Interestingly, according to insider reports provided by Soompi, the production company was not initially planning to do a second season. However, following the success of the series, the team inquired about the main casting schedule regarding the possibility of filming more content.

“Since there was initially no intention of the drama becoming a seasonal series, the production team had to consider a number of things. The biggest factor was the main cast schedule, so they had to check that early. The team is currently discussing the possibility of starting filming for the second season. – Insider Source, via Soompi.

In response to this information, OCN (the South Korean network) confirmed that they are “in the process of turning the drama into a seasonal series” but that “production details and filming schedule have not yet been announced. been decided”.

Interestingly, some cast members said they were ready for a second season. Lead actor Jo Byung Kyu said that “there are so many people asking for Season 2, so I would really like to work with the same staff and crew from Season 1 again.” Yoo Joon Sang added, “I will work out and take care of my body so we can get through to Season 5.”

The K-drama was the highest-rated OCN series in network history, with over 3.2 million people in South Korea showing up for the Season 1 finale; more than 10% of the entire national audience! Overall, the series ended with scores of 8.1/10 on IMDB, 8.8/10 on MyDramaList, 91% on AsianWiki, and 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

When could The Uncanny Counter season 2 be released?

While The Uncanny Counter has been officially renewed, a release date for Season 2 remains unknown both domestically in South Korea and internationally via Netflix.

From first script reading to premiere, production on Season 1 took around two months, which means fans can expect a quick turnaround once filming officially begins.

There have been insider reports that the production team is considering “the possibility of beginning filming for the second season in September 2021.” However, there has been no follow-up information regarding when production will resume for Season 2, leading many to speculate that it has been put on hold until cast schedules become available.

Since June 2022, Jo Byeong-kyu has been working on two more tracks “Millennial Killer” and “Even if I Die Again”, with Yeom Hye-ran set to star in “Citizen Deok Hee” and “Ung-nam-i” (which all remain TBA).

If Season 2 can maintain a similar production schedule to the first adventure, The Uncanny Counter could theoretically return as early as December 2022, but arguably a more likely return window would be Q1 2023.
