In the first two seasons of The Umbrella Academy, Klaus was able to perform two salient skills, mediumship and evocation. The third installment brings a new and even more impressive power to our ghost whisperer, which makes Klaus an indispensable member of the Umbrellas and an all-powerful enemy. But what is Klaus’ new power?
The Umbrella Academy season 3 – what are Klaus’ new powers?
The fourth drugged Umbrella, known as The Séance, has two primary powers. He can summon the dead and temporarily grant them human characteristics. This ability to communicate with the dead means he can have conversations with Ben, a deceased Umbrella brother. Later, he learns to control these powers so that Ben can interact with the real world and fight as a team. In the third season, he uses this skill to bring Luther back from the dead. Luther manages to save his wife from her own death at Hotel Oblivion and disarms The Guardian, helping the gang buy valuable time. All the while, Klaus controls Luther with his glowing hand.
Still, that’s not the most impressive feat, Klaus discovers he possesses one of the greatest powers of all: immortality. This magical skill is discovered when Klaus is shot in the chest with a harpoon gun by the lovable rogue Stanley. He wakes up in purgatory, a black and white world and is shown a montage of moments from his life. All of these scenes involve the death of Klaus. As a child, he was locked away in a mausoleum by his father, who experimented on him, clearly aware of his abilities. Teenager Klaus fell off a roof while drunk, then finally relived the harpoon blast once more. Klaus never believed he was actually dead in those early years, and now the realization overwhelms him.
Klaus travels from these memories to a beach where he talks with his mother. She tells him that he died fifty-six times and was always immortal. Klaus makes the foolish decision to pass this information on to his father Reginald when he returns to the real world. Reginald experiences poor Klaus again. He chokes him, electrocutes him, and has Klaus repeatedly run over by traffic. On each occasion, Reginald times how long it takes Klaus to resurrect. Klaus hones this skill so he can come back from the dead faster each time until he narrows it down to minutes. For his series finale death, Klaus impales himself on a buffalo horn to escape the Kugelblitz and wakes up inside Hotel Oblivion.
This power means Klaus can survive any attack and is sure to be a most beloved member of the Umbrellas when season four begins. Klaus should be revered by his siblings and promoted through the ranks, but something tells me immortality won’t actually change Klaus’ positioning within the Umbrellas.
You can watch this series with a Netflix subscription.
