The Outlaws season 2 episode 2 recap

Rani has promised the Dean he’ll get his money back in eight weeks, and things look bleak. The only thing Ben and Rani can think of doing, despite Christian’s objections, is call the police. But just as Rani talks to Sgt. Haines, the three of them receive alerts on their phones with videos and a sniper rifle pointed at their loved ones.

Rani and Ben go to see their fellow community service friends who took the money to get it back. However, John, Frank, and Myrna have already spent it. Frank put him in the business. Frank paid off his daughter’s mortgage. Myrna invested the money in her organization. They all promise to get him back, which seems impossible, but it’s a better alternative than selling drugs – which Rani suggests.

The problem is that they all leave. John no longer has access to the business because his father fired him. He’s been denied a loan, and though he’s banking on his 19 years of management experience to land a job, his prospects don’t look bright. Myrna should exhaust her organization. When Frank gets the rest of the money, he discovers that his daughter has placed the remaining dollars in college funds for her children.

So even though drugs ruined Ben’s family, Rani convinces him to give in in just eight weeks, and then they’ll stop. Rani and Ben approach Christian. And while he objects at first, they turn him around. He then takes them on a crash course, a masterclass if you will, in how to run a drug operation in Bristol. Rani is the brain; Ben will be the muscle. And John got the job he deserves: managing the business side of Christian’s drug trade.

The problem now is marketing. You can’t just write a flyer saying “Buy medicine here!” Rani comes up with a plan to get mailing lists, John’s suggestion for direct marketing, to expand the business outside of their local base. Ben will retrieve the mailing lists from the club he works at. Myrna will catch the BJC one. Rani will play the role of the student and find a direct line with the students. Gregory will then ask Gabby to perform at the club and make the announcement to his $1.2 million subscribers. So they will clear the huge bar tab that she can’t afford.

The end

In a scene from a Steve Soderbergh movie where he has a group of his Hollywood actor friends looking for a big payday, Gregory distracts the club owner and has Ben break into his computer to steal his mailing list. Myrna has to manually manipulate a mouse and doesn’t know how to drag and drop a file onto a USB drive, so John has to run on it. Finally, Rani avoids a pompous sexual stalker at Oxford University who asks her out and violates her personal space. He leaves and she downloads the data before security catches up with her.

They combine the lists and send out enough, as John suggests, to get a 50% response rate. Ben comes up with a code name, “Coffee,” as the code name for their product. The show ends with The Outlaws waiting for their answers, and the orders are pouring in. Haines and Selforth have identified who The Dean is. They then draw an arrow to a picture of Christian. Finally, they draw an arrow to the right that points to a giant question mark.
