The Outlaws season 2 episode 1 recap

The season begins with Rani tied up and a hood placed over her head. She drives in a van and the road is lit by fluorescent lamps. When they arrive at their destination, the hood is removed and she looks straight in the eye at a familiar face. He’s a Christian, and he doesn’t look happy. The scene fades to black and the words 72 hours earlier appear.

Rani arrives at Ben’s house, and her sister Esme is there. She needs a place to sleep. She correctly gives Rani a hard time loving her brother. Lady Gabby is out of control and partying all night. John managed to keep his father’s business afloat. Frank is still at his daughter’s house and his grandson is holding the money hostage. Finally, Myrna still sees the ghost of this policeman who perished during his violent demonstration. Meanwhile, Gregory is still representing Gabby trying to cut expenses since her dad cut her off. Diane joins the Community Support Team for being an unarmed officer so it will look good on her application for police duty in about a year.

Christian, the drug dealer for whom Ben stole the phone (and money) that inadvertently framed him, drove past The Outlaws as they continued to clean up the community center. (This should have been done by now). He waves a gun at them, and now Ben brings everyone up on the money issue, including Rani. They can’t get the money back because John and Myrna spent it, and Frank’s grandson has his share. Myrna spent his on her activist group and John put the money into the business which is ironic because the next day his dad made a power play and forced him out even though John has took the money and laundered it to fund his father’s failing establishment.

Later, Ben makes a deal with Christian to end the feud. He wants the dean’s number. So, Ben calls her while holding his associate at gunpoint. Ben tells him that he was the one who stole his money and confirmed for The Dean that his associates weren’t among them. In good faith, he dials the “line” (a phone filled with the dean’s contacts) to call back his attack dogs. The bad guy tells them they have a deal, but something tells me he’ll still be looking for Ben.

Rani and her mother are talking. She wants her to come home, watch Graham Norton for a bit, then go to Oxford. Rani refuses and heads to the club where Ben works. She gets drunk and Ben, the gentleman, takes her home and puts her in bed. She leaves later. He sleeps on the floor next to the sofa. That’s when they hear someone at the door. Ben thinks it’s his sister, but two masked men grab them both.

The end

We are taken back to the first scene of the second season. When Rani sees Christian, she looks down and sees him kneeling in front of her with his hands tied. She looks to her right, and there’s Ben, tied up the same way. They are both kneeling on plastic. The Dean then enters and demands to know the money. Souljah joins him. He denounced Christian. However, when Dean asks Christian to sit down and put his feet up, Dean stomps on his leg, breaking it.

Why? He doesn’t like snitches. The Dean then puts Ben’s head in a plastic bag and begins to choke him. Rani begs him to stop and promises that they will refund the money. How? She tells the Dean because she is brilliant and has a scholarship to Oxford. (Okay, maybe he should check the references first, right?).
