Servant Season 4 Episode 2 Itchy Review and Recap of Bed Bugs, Tomato Dishes, and Tobe Might Be More Than It Seems

January 20, 2023

Things have been weird in Servant. They have been scary, confusing and exciting. Things were gross even, but nothing could prepare me for the gagging horror of Servant Season 4 Episode 2. Leanne went on the offensive and decided to punish the whole block. So sound a warning, if bedbugs are making you squirm, you might want to skip Servant Season 4 Episode 2. Just know that if you do, you’ll miss out on some important developments in the race at the end of the season.

Dorothy’s return home was not triumphant. She is in trouble. She is in pain, frustrated with her limitations, and more than angry with Leanne. On the other hand, Leanne couldn’t be happier with the way things are going. She still sincerely believes she can convince Dorothy to love her again, one act of service at a time. She spends most of her time trying to find ways to bring Dorothy back to her side. Unfortunately, it quickly becomes apparent that Dorothy is done being scared and playing nice.

The men of the house are not on the same wavelength as Dorothy, however. Julian and Leanne are always flirting, and Sean is obedient. Leanne has firm control over both. She sends Sean to his interview with GQ when he thinks he should stay with Dorothy. This allows Leanne to isolate Dorothy and try to get back into her good graces. Usually things don’t go as planned.

Servant has always used television cleverly to slyly convey critical information and give us a glimpse of a larger world that can seem so far away in our island existence with the Turners. For example, a news report Dorothy is watching reports an increase in crime that has residents worried and considering leaving Philadelphia. Does this indicate that the rot extends beyond the brownstone and into the city? Before the end of Servant Season 4 Episode 2, we seem to have that answer.

Leanne and Dorothy’s relationship has always been front and center. Sometimes tender and nourishing, it has now turned sour. Dorothy rightly hates Leanne, and nothing will change that. It doesn’t help that Leanne took her phone and restricted access to Jericho. She makes other mistakes by gathering all of Jericho’s old baby clothes into a quilt, including the yellow jumpsuit he wore when he died. For Dorothy, it’s devastating because Leanne takes on her job as a mother. Even though Leanne has changed, she’s still the same clumsy girl who doesn’t understand how to handle Dorothy. She never really understood the older woman and constantly made mistakes.

Most of Servant Season 4 Episode 2 has Nell Tiger Free (Leanne) unleashing her inner Annie Wilkes. She held back clothes, abused Dorothy, said vicious things to her, and traded in bites of food for hugs from Jericho. This is disturbing behavior from the girl who was so sweet. However, Leanne knows who she is now and embraces her power.

Tobe is back, delivering what looks like a fully slaughtered pig. He and Julian surround themselves, posing for Leanne’s affection. Is Sean’s assistant more than it seems? He has always been in the shadows. On the periphery but never a main player. He isn’t fazed by the bedbug infestation and finds time to cook Leanne a delicious meal. Does he try to win the girl back, or will this unimposing character play a bigger role in the final battle? Maybe he can convince her to come back to the light?

Kourtney, with a K, makes another hilarious appearance in Servant Season 4 Episode 2. Dorothy texted her when Leanne returned her phone at Tobe’s request. The poor girl had no idea she was walking through a nest of bed bugs but managed to help Dorothy turn the tables a bit. Leanne knows she’s losing control of Julian and the Turners and doesn’t understand why they don’t like her. She says pain and anger are like insects crawling under your skin. She’s going to make sure everyone feels her pain.

Servant has always been at his best when he mixes the absurd with the truly terrifying. Watching the group frolic in hazmat suits while Leanne takes a razor blade off Dorothy’s legs is shocking but also very funny. This recipe for classic horror tropes and unexpected weirdness makes this show unique.

Leanne’s group is back in full force. They have returned to the park behind Leanne’s house and are bolder now. Julian is told by one of Leanne’s followers that Leanne caused this, and it’s glorious. If true, Leanne’s power has grown tremendously and is spreading far beyond their brownstone. When Uncle George later appears, he confirms what the woman in the park said. Leanne controls it all.

Just as she punishes Dorothy and protects herself, Leanne gives Sean everything he ever wanted. Although they left his interview with GQ early, they want him back. This time they want him for a more in-depth interview. These words make me wonder if Leanne is a wish demon who dispenses your most incredible dreams, but only if you reward her with devotion and love. It does seem that she encourages vices and grants wishes like a jinn.

Leanne begins to realize, however, that she has overplayed her hand. No amount of surprise shave or lipstick smudge will change Dorothy’s mind. It’s a turning point when Dorothy tells Leanne that she thinks she’s evil. Leanne understands that she has power over men because they are terrified of her. She however underestimates the force of nature that is Dorothy. Anyone who could survive this fall must be remarkable. Maybe this ridiculous, talkative, self-absorbed loon really is an angel? Either way, Dorothy is determined to regain control. Leanne may have to do her best because now that Dorothy has hired two home nurses, she won’t have the same access as before. She will have to use all her influence over the men to drive out the nurses.

Nell Tiger Free was in chilling out in Servant Season 4 Episode 2. All of his pent-up anger and frustration were on full display. Julian is fun to watch and Sean has grown into a fully developed character, but the show has always belonged to Free’s Leanne and Lauren Ambrose’s Dorothy. The battle for Jericho and potentially the world will come down to these two women. Uncle George and his church are scary, but they don’t look like the Big Bad they were in Season 1.

If there were any questions about what caused the house to break down, none should remain after Servant Season 4 Episode 2. Everyone from Leanne’s followers to Uncle George is convinced that she is behind all the attacks. Leanne’s minions are birds, termites, bees and bed bugs. His powers and rage grow. So what happens when she loses control? Dorothy pushes her hard, and the more pressure Leanne puts on Sean and Julian, the more they’ll start to act unpredictably, which will only exacerbate things.

It’s as if we’re headed for a disaster of epic proportions. Who will survive? Will anyone survive? It’s good versus evil, and I’m starting to think we’ve been on the wrong side the whole time. Dorothy, the most unlikely of heroes, could be our saviour. Follow all of our Servant coverage here and look for the next episode next week on Apply TV+.

lost lost:

  • The dish that Leanne asks Julian to prepare is called Chachoaka or Shakshouka. This spicy dish, traditionally served for breakfast or lunch, consists of tomatoes, onions, peppers, garlic and eggs and resembles the Latin American dish Huevos Rancheros. It would be a very bad idea to give Dorothy this heavily spiced dish after eating so blandly for so long. It’s also not ideal to know that she can’t go to the bathroom on her own. Interestingly, it’s made with a tomato sauce base, considering how much tomato soup Leanne ate when she arrived at the Turners.
  • I live for Tobe in his pink plastic poncho.
  • Exterminator, bro, with his BRB speech, was precisely the comedy we needed after the invasion of piles of bed bugs.
  • Tobe made Leanne a Mole Rojo. The tomato-based sauce is made with onions, garlic, cinnamon, chili peppers, and sometimes walnuts or pumpkin seeds. This is the only time in the episode that Leanne felt cared for without judgment or fear. It’s also more tomatoes.
  • Leanne’s room now has decorations. She prefers a burnt orange color similar to tomato soup.
  • Tobe means God is good. I have no doubt that he will play a determining role in the final episodes.
