Who is Sally McNeil?

The titular Sally’s full name is Sally McNeil. She is a former American bodybuilder, who married another former bodybuilder, Ray McNeil. Sally was born on May 29, 1960.

Although the crime took place in 1995, when Sally was 35, she is now 62. Convicted of second degree murder in 1996, McNeil was sentenced to 19 years to life.

She filed numerous appeals on various grounds, and her conviction was initially overturned by the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

However, the State of California appealed the decision to the United States Supreme Court, which overturned the 9th Circuit’s ruling.

The 9th Circuit later reconsidered the matter and ruled in favor of the state, reinstating McNeil’s original conviction.

She served her sentence at the Central California Women’s Facility and was released in 2020 when her parole was granted by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
