Netflix comedy A24 month is based at least in part on the life of its co-creator and star Mo Amer and explores the immigrant experience in the United States in an immediately warm and fun way. Over the course of eight half-hour episodes, there’s plenty of laughs, but the show also raises serious issues of addiction, systemic injustice, nebulous ideas of citizenship, the battle between tradition and modernity, and cultural crossovers. It’s a great winning formula, and anyone who enjoys the first season will no doubt wonder about the potential for a second. Here’s everything we know.
Renewed or canceled status – will we see MB season 2 on Netflix?
Status: to be confirmed
As of this writing, Netflix hasn’t officially renewed the show for a second season. However, I’m pretty confident on this one.
month is a vital slice of welcome performance that, crucially, will appeal to a wide audience by not being preachy and condescending about its subjects. The authenticity and relatability of his observations make the show very warm and relatable, and the heart of the story has broad appeal. Since this probably isn’t a very expensive show to shoot, and it’s a passion project for its creators and cast, the resources and will to create a sequel will be a dime a dozen.
This, and the fact that the first season doesn’t just end on a cliffhanger, but with a very obvious setup for another season, suggests to me that Mo’s story is far from over.
What could Mo season 2 be about?
As detailed here, the first season ended with Mo stranded in Mexico being chased by the coyotes who were originally supposed to help him cross the border. It looks like Mo will have to use some of his Mexican girlfriend Maria’s family connections to get home, while his mother and brother try to run their new business without him.
What is Mo?
Partly inspired by the life of its star and co-creator, Mo Amer, month is a comedy series exploring the life and tribulations of the titular Mo, who, along with his family, has been in Houston for 22 years after fleeing first Palestine and then Kuwait, and has still not been granted citizenship. When an ICE raid causes Mo to lose his job, he turns to a side hustle selling counterfeit designer gear that leads him down a dark rabbit hole of lean addiction and criminal dealings to try to make ends meet and supporting his family – all without getting kicked out.
