January 16, 2023

Netflix’s latest feel-good movie is sure to bring tears to the surface. Set on the beautiful Appalachian Trail, it’s no surprise audiences are curious to know where Dog Gone was filmed.

Beloved father John Marshall (Rob Lowe) and his teenage son Feilding (Jonny Berchtold) team up after their pet goes missing along the Appalachian Trail.

Desperate for his lifesaving medicine, the Marshalls have only two weeks to find Gonker before the beloved dog dies.

The epic story of a father and son as they search for their missing dog Gonker is made even more powerful because of its real-life inspiration.

The film is based on the book Dog Gone: A Lost Pet’s Extraordinary Journey And The Family Who Bring Him Home, written by Pauls Toutonghi.

Where was Dog Gone filmed?

All filming for Dog Gone took place in the state of Georgia. Just like the characters in the film, the crew traveled around the state to capture many crucial scenes.

According to The Cinemaholic, production began in August 2021 and wrapped in January 2022.

The majority of filming took place around Stone Mountain, Conyers, Riverdale and Powder Springs.

A small portion of the Netflix movie was shot in Rabun County.

The Appalachian Trail

Several scenes were filmed on the real Appalachian Trail, as this is where Gonker disappears. The trail is a popular hiking location in the eastern United States.

Amazingly, the trail stretches across 14 states.

It is nearly 2,200 miles long, stretching from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine.

Without a doubt, the trail provides a beautiful backdrop for the heartbreaking story.
