maggie summary of season 1, episode 3
The episode opens with Maggie and Louise planning a double date with their new guys while Louise teaches her yoga class. During their dinner, Louise and John are on top of each other like animals in heat, while Maggie and Daniel watch and make sarcastic remarks from the gallery. This is where John begins to tell Maggie how hard it must be for her to see him with Louise because of their breakup. No matter how many times she tells him it was a date, he gently lets her down.
Ben and his sister Amy have a conflict in this episode. He asks Amy if he loves Jessie after rereading his sister’s wedding invitation and reducing the paper from ten to six pages. Ben asks why his girlfriend wouldn’t do her hair for Amy’s wedding? She tries to avoid the question but ends up letting him know. Amy doesn’t want her to because of two things. First, they often break up. The second is the weird way they moved just below Maggie’s apartment.
Meanwhile, Louise briefly breaks up with John because when they talk about her relationship with Maggie, she makes a face and plays a silly song about a dog. She misinterprets this as he will hurt her, or their relationship has no future. As Maggie tries to work on her straight face, Daniel stops with some Chinese food and a fortune cookie reminds him of Ben. She cancels another date with Daniel and tells him that maybe they are going too fast.
The end
Maggie speaks with her father. He insists on letting his friends do and learn from their own mistakes. He tells her how they allowed Maggie to make her own mistakes so she could learn from them. She should do the same for her friends. So when she sees John breaking up with our sweet Louise and telling her it’s not him, it’s you, she lets nature take its course. And he also adds that he won’t tell her anything and that she continues to avoid texting from a guy she likes even though Maggie should text him back.
The episode ends with Amy asking Jessie to be one of her bridesmaids (and do the entire wedding party’s hair for free). Louise lets Maggie know that John broke up with her, and she breaks the news now that she’s now using poker faces. Eventually Maggie calls Daniel and they go on their date.
