Locke and Key season 3, episode 7 recap

In 1995 at Mathson Academy, Rendell designed and created a little monster, Caliban. Captain Frederick Gideon forces Ellie to drive, but as they speed up, she brakes and tries to flee. However, the captain quickly finds Ellie. Nina struggles with Sam returning to her life, but Sam tries to convince her how sorry she is. Goldie hears a noise and finds that Gideon and Ellie are in her house. Ellie warns him that the Captain wants a key that is inside his head. But since Goldie can’t remember the magic, he has a hard time believing Captain Gideon and Ellie.

So Goldie tries to fight Gideon, greatly underestimating him. As a result, Gideon stabs Goldie. When Goldie tells Ellie to do what she has to do to save herself, Ellie puts a key in Goldie’s neck. Shortly after, Tyler, Kinsey, Sam/James and Rufus find a dying Gordie Shaw. As Rufus calls an ambulance, Tyler, Kinsey and Sam enter another word. In Goldie’s world, Ellie drags Captain Frederick Gideon underground in feelings of rage and hatred. Then, as demonic beings attack the captain, Ellie flees.

The end

As Goldie begins to die, the lights in her world begin to go out. In the real world, paramedics arrive as Rufus panics that there are two Goldies. When Ellie goes to retrieve the key, she’s gone. And a quick flashback shows that her friend, Erin, has decided to move the key to a safer place. But where? But that doesn’t matter to Tyler; if they’re in his head while Goldie dies, they’ll be trapped there forever.

When the gang finds the key, Captain Gideon grabs them and they all fight. Gideon throws a piano at Sam, seemingly trapping him. As paramedics perform CPR on Goldie, the world begins to change. Mathson Police arrest Rufus as they mistakenly believe he may be responsible for Goldie’s stabbing. The penultimate episode of Locke and Key ends as Goldie’s heart stops and her world seemingly crumbles with Tyler, Kinsey, Ellie and Sam still inside. Will they be able to get out?

In some ways, this episode has a twin peaks vibe, although obviously due to the target audience, it’s much tamer and less traumatic. All in all, it’s a decent episode, and fans will likely be intrigued as they head into the final episode of Locke and Key.
