
You’ll never run out of movies to watch if you have a Netflix subscription and the platform’s exciting and steady stream of Originals has thankfully continued to pour in into 2023 with a range of titles. As sequels to Murder Mystery and Extraction loom in the distance, futuristic sci-fi film Jung_E has already arrived.
Released on Netflix on Friday January 20, 2023, it is the latest feature film from South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho.
He is best known for directing the acclaimed 2016 horror film Train To Busan, which was quickly hailed as one of the most impressive zombie films ever made by fans.
His latest tells the story of a researcher at an AI lab who works to end a civil war in the post-apocalyptic near future. She tries to do this by cloning the brain of her mother, a revered soldier.
While there’s a lot to digest throughout the film’s runtime, many will have their attention stolen by Jung_E’s “In Memory Of” tribute at the end…

Explanation of Jung_E’s tribute “In Memory Of”
At the very end of the film, there is a tribute that reads “In memory of Kang Soo-youn [1966 – 2022].
She was a South Korean actress who died tragically on May 7, 2022. She stars in Jung_E as Soehyun, which serves as her final on-screen role. The Hollywood Reporter reports that she was taken to hospital after suffering cardiac arrest and later died of a brain hemorrhage.
The actress has starred in a series of films throughout her career, including Sibaji (she played Sibaji), Aje Aje Bara Aje (Soon-nyeo), Hanbando (Empress Myeongseong), Song-o (Jung-hwa) and Blackjack (Jang Eun-Young).
Before Jung_E, his previous role was in the 2012 film Jury (Short), with Hanji (Ji-Won) released the previous year in 2011.
She began her career as a child, earning praise and fans for her role on A High School Student’s Diary in the early 1980s.
