Another chapter and the characters mourn another death. Kite is frustrated with himself but Ayumu refuses to give up. They play the archives on Kite’s phone and it shows which parts of Japan will resurface. Kite assembles a huge balloon so they can fly over the sea, but shockingly it leaves Ayumu, Go, and Onodera behind.

However, Kite had a plan: he got on the balloon to reconnect his phone to the internet. Suddenly a helicopter finds Ayumu, Go and Onodera as they find Kite’s GPS. They fly over Mount Fuji which has completely erupted. Ayumu passes out in the helicopter and ends up in the hospital. In the news, the disaster is widespread on a global scale. From now on, the final of Japan Sinks: 2020 season 1 is about the new future. The following scenes show Ayumu receiving a birthday message from Kite. She is now 15 years old. She sobbed uncontrollably. Go has access to their mother’s social media accounts and he and Ayumu go through all of her photos and memories. She kept a lot of stuff stored on her computer.wqq

8 years later

The series then cuts to 8 years later – we are introduced to a teenager Go. A new Japan has been formed despite the disappearance of much of the population. The country has many archives so that returning Japanese can look back on the past.

The records also reveal that all of Japan will be reborn in 100 years, but many parts have already resurfaced. A treaty was concluded internationally so that Japan could retain the territory. Ayumu competes on the Japanese Paralympic team with one leg – the other leg she lost after her injuries in the disaster. She vowed to make the most of the lives of those who gave her the foundation – there are many scenes of those who helped and supported her along the journey – many people died. The second part of episode 10 is dedicated to old and new Japan, characters past and present. It’s a beautiful montage to sign a brilliant series. Episode 10 offers a sweet ending to a thought-provoking anime series giving the characters time to reflect and see a new future.
