Is Luckyest Girl Alive based on a true story?
Although both the film and the novel are a work of fiction, the inspiration behind Jessica’s written story is drawn from her own experiences, reports IndieWire.
The Luckiest Girl Alive stars Mila as New York Times Magazine editor Ani FaNelli, who lives a lucky life in New York City with good friends and the perks of her position.
However, she must confront her past when a true crime documentarian arrives on the scene to discuss an incident that happened during her school days.

“She was talking about Ani”
Jessica herself is a former editor of publication Cosmopolitan and IndieWire reports that she revealed in 2016 that she was gang-raped as a teenager.
It was a year after the novel was published, and People reports that she wrote an essay for Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter that helped her deal with the trauma of the event:
“The first person to tell me that I had been the victim of a gang rape was a therapist, seven years after the fact. The second was my literary agent, five years later, only she didn’t talk about me. She was talking about Ani, the protagonist of my novel, Luckyest Girl Alive, which is a work of fiction. What I have kept to myself, until today, is that his inspiration is not.
She added: “I ran and I dodged and I dodged because I’m scared. I’m afraid people won’t call what happened to me a rape because for a long time no one did.
