Arguably one of the most intriguing and compelling new shows to emerge from 2021 was 1899. It presented audiences with the story of European immigrants boarding a steamer in London and heading to New York. The characters come together, but upon discovering an abandoned ship, it quickly becomes apparent that there is much more to this mystery than meets the eye.

It was a lot to take in, and what else would you expect from Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the creators of Dark.

The collaborative duo’s latest work dropped in November and had fans engulfed in its eight episodes, spitting them out and demanding a sequel. Unfortunately, you’ll be disheartened to learn that Netflix canceled 1899 after one season.

However, you can join the fight and sign the 1899 Season 2 petition.

How to Sign the 1899 Season 2 Petition

You can sign the “Renew 1899 on Netflix” petition here on Change.org and it currently has 16,000 signatures and counting.

With 25k it will become one of the platform’s most signed petitions.

It was started by Jiří Matouš, who provided a description further explaining why they think season 2 is deserved:

“1899 was clearly created with multiple seasons in mind. After the first season, there are a lot of unanswered questions and a big cliffhanger at the end of the last episode. We want a renewal of the show and a proper ending to the story.

To sign, you just need to write your name and your email; you can choose to be informed of the progress of the petition by ticking the appropriate box before signing.

“We would have loved to end this incredible trip”

Variety reports that Baran recently offered Instagram followers a statement regarding Netflix’s cancellation that was co-signed by Jantje:

“It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed. We would have liked to end this incredible journey with a second and third season like we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t go the way you planned. That’s life.”

The statement continues: “We know this is going to disappoint millions of fans. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Never forget.”
