June 24, 2022

Words are not enough to describe how global the Money Heist phenomenon has become as more and more fans flock to indulge in Spanish crime.

Halloween costumes, fan pages, countdowns to new seasons — the works.

Luckily, the fandom finally got a treat for Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, a South Korean television series set in the same universe as its predecessor.

While there are new characters and stories to embrace, the flavor is similar, with some welcome twists to subvert some expectations and complement the change of location.

As the viewer is engulfed in a hostage crisis on the Korean Peninsula, they will be hesitant to get off the train when they get to the finale. So, it’s worth wondering how many episodes Money Heist: Korea has in all.

How many episodes in Money Heist: Korea?

Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area will feature a total of 12 episodes in its first season.

The first six episodes were added to Netflix on Friday, June 24, 2022, and six more episodes will be added to the platform later. A release date for these has yet to be confirmed.

As the last seasons of shows as popular as You better call Saul, ozarkand stranger things, Netflix has split the season into two parts. Nonetheless, audiences will find the six episodes currently available to be a palatable binge.

The streaming service has usually unveiled the second half of a season about a month or so after the previous one lately. Taking that into consideration, we expect Part 2 could air as early as late July or early August.

Money Heist: Is Korea renewed for season 2?

No, neither Netflix nor the creators of the latest series have announced a season 2 renewal.

However, it is arguably far too early to expect any concrete news on the renewal; especially when the second half of the first season has yet to reach fans.

Reflecting on the success of its predecessor, on the other hand, it’s easy to imagine Money Heist: Korea was intended to be a successful multi-season series, aiming to replicate the success of the original.

“The biggest change is the configuration”

Park Hae-soo (who plays Berlin) recently spoke with Discussing Film and was asked to share some thoughts on Money Heist: Korea:

“As this is the Korean version, the biggest change is the setup. It is based on Korean history and the fact that we are a divided nation. So, it’s going to be something you might want to look out for in particular while you watch it, and it’s something that will set the Korean series apart from the Spanish original.

Even from the opening episode, it’s evident that the location ushers in crucial contextual departures from the predecessor.

As for his character, Park Hae-soo continued, “I’m playing a North Korean character and it was a new challenge for me because it’s not a fictional thing. This is the real story for us. I paid particular attention to describing the details of what happens in the concentration camps in North Korea.

He added that he wanted to do his “duty in portraying it because it is, again, history and not fiction. There was a sense of responsibility. »

Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
