Crash Course in Romance Season 1 Episode 5 Recap
Chi-yeol’s deal for Hae-e’s tutor
After Chi-yeol’s condition for private tutoring Hae-e is revealed (he will be able to buy two meals a day from Haeng Seon), the tutor sets to work programming and swears his ally to secrecy about the arrangement. This is basically to protect the balance of Korea’s competitive private education system. Whatever the reasoning, Haeng-seon happily accepts everything for her niece’s sake, before treating Chi-yeol to some leftovers.
As the recurring hooded man walks away from Young-min’s crime scene, silver bullet in hand, Hae-e discovers that she will be receiving private tutoring. The student finds it hard to believe, to the point that she checks that her aunt hasn’t taken out a mortgage to pay for such a lien, although she swears she’ll ‘study hard’ when the situation is clarified , wanting to make the most of this “rare opportunity”. Meanwhile, Chi-yeol makes sure he’s doing the right thing.
Young-min’s death
The next day, Chi-yeol arrives at the academy to find the tragic scene of Young-min’s death, triggering a thought. But such introspection is not allowed to persist, for before long the private guardian is brought in for questioning by the police. Here, it seems obvious that Chi-yeol isn’t exactly considered above suspicion regarding the student’s death, especially when the teacher admits he had scolded the late Young-min that very night of his death.
When Hae-e happily agrees to help Geon-hu studying (she thinks she can learn from this too), Sun Jae becomes disappointed. He also can’t hide his emotions, asking why his friend is “wasting” her time, until he is interrupted by news of the death occurring on the grounds of Pride’s academy. Meanwhile, Haeng-seon reads the news of the alleged suicide herself, obviously worried about what it might mean from a welfare perspective.
Although he pretended to be upset by Young-min’s death, su hui and Seo-jin try to get the other All treatments mothers on board who requested Pride are reconsidering their decision to temporarily cancel lessons. Elsewhere, a deflated and distressed Chi-yeol accepts in defeat that he will continue to teach “as usual”.
As Haeng-seon laments the fact that the children are going to have to continue their education at the academy despite the death of their classmate, Chi-yeol struggles to teach her discouraged class with any enthusiasm. Then the star tutor suffers a sleepless night, needing a long jog the next morning to clear his head.
While Hae-e now helps Geon-hu, who is happy to join her desk with hers, Sun-jae struggles to hide her jealousy. So he confronts the hockey player about his intentions, admitting he has a crush on Haeng-seon’s niece. This, however, unwittingly prompts Geon-hu to confidently state that he could do it too. Simultaneously, the police decide to classify Young-min’s death as a suicide, but one officer in particular notes that “something is fishy.” Interestingly, it is established here that detective song was once known as the ‘bulldozer’ but now perhaps more keen to wrap things up quickly considering he was once called ‘evil’ because he had a young boy wrongfully charged for the alleged murder of his own mother.
After teaching her academy students ways to ease anxiety, Chi-yeol heads to Tutor Hae-e. It’s awkward at first, with the teacher talking about his “billion won man” nickname amid Haeng-seon’s brutal disruption, even though the private lesson ends up going well. Nonetheless, Chi-yeol later warns the side dish shop owner against crossing boundaries, uncomfortable with his friendliness, as well as his compassion for how he was forced to teach. normally when a student has died.
Jae-woo’s arrest
Thanks to Jae woo late in getting waffles (his favorite worker is not on duty at the time), Haeng-seon is forced to think things through and create an excuse for the packed lunch prepared for Chi-yeol when Yeong-ju rush to the store. It pretty much works, but the longevity of such justifications is unlikely to persist. Elsewhere, Chi-yeol arrives at the academy to hear the All treatments tests were able to leak, but soon realizes that this panic was caused because he used the printer without anyone else knowing. As such, the star tutor gives Dong-hui an unholy assurance that all is well.
When Jae-woo is confronted by his favorite waffle server’s boyfriend, who believes he is a stalker, he accidentally knocks the lawyer to the ground. Thus, Haeng-seon is claimed at the police station, where she finds her brother in the cell and begs the victims to drop their charges. Luckily, after a harrowing explanation of how Jae-woo just enjoyed waffles due to their crispness and couldn’t understand the social implications of his repeated actions because he has Asperger’s Syndrome, Ms. Kwon is able to accept the shop owner’s apology. This, in turn, allows both parties to end the affair, in exchange for Jae-woo’s permanent absence from the cafe at the future.
Once he returns Haeng-seon’s phone to her, Chi-yeol leaves, reflecting on what he listened to at the police station. Meanwhile, Dong-hui offers wine to his colleagues using his superior’s card, and fellow private tutor Jin Yi-sang (who was revealed to be a chiyeolsucks user online) continues his quest to smear his rival. academic, listening to someone describe how the famous tutor can lead students to death given his ties to Young-min and a student who died at the academy ten years ago.
As a policeman notices the shiny silver bullet while reviewing CCTV footage of Young-min’s actions before his death, Jae-woo returns home. He first apologizes to his niece, then eats beans, upset that he won’t be able to order any of Mrs. Kwon’s waffles from now on. Luckily, Hae-e lets her uncle buy himself a waffle maker, and everyone agrees to go camping that weekend in an attempt to cheer them up.
