Who are the cast and characters of Blockbuster?
Randall Park plays Timmy
Randall Park is a charismatic juggernaut, and in Blockbuster he brings his signature charm and self-deprecating humor to his role as Timmy, the owner of the world’s last Blockbuster store.
Timmy has worked at the same Blockbuster location since he was a teenager. Then Blockbuster was at its peak and served as refuge for Timmy from his rocky relationship with his divorced parents. Blockbuster was and always has been Timmy’s home. So when he gets the call from head office to inform him that the rest of Blockbuster has been shut down, he is now the sole owner of the last remaining franchise.
Timmy immediately decides he needs to up his game and takes his role more seriously, gradually growing up and taking himself more seriously.
Timmy also carries a torch for his high school crush Eliza, who has returned to work at the store.
Melissa Fumero as Eliza
Brooklyn 99 alum Smoker finds showrunner Vanessa Ramos (screenwriter on Brooklyn 99) and embodies Eliza, the most together character of Blockbuster but whose life did not go as she hoped.
Eliza is a bright spark, who earned a place at the prestigious Harvard before she got pregnant and put off graduating to have her daughter. Now, a few years later, she finds herself going through a separation from her husband (who cheated on her), raising a teenage daughter, and returning to work at the Blockbuster store where she spent a summer working at adolescence.
JB Smoove plays Percy
Comedian JB Smoove brings his terse persona to the role of Percy, Timmy’s best friend, landlord and owner of a party store in the same mall where the Blockbuster is located.
Percy is a more complex character than you might conclude at first glance. He loves Timmy where he is, in a state of arrested development, and does what he can to keep Timmy from growing up so he can always have a playmate.
Madeline Arthur as Hannah
Known for his roles in To all the boys I’ve loved before and Family, Magdalene arthur is a rising actress who plays the role of Hannah, the naive and sheltered employee.
Hannah was homeschooled and apparently had a pretty tough upbringing. However, this does not prevent him from raising his aspirations higher and seeking more from life. She is cheerful and optimistic although a bit naive about the ways of the world.
Tyler Alvarez plays Carlos
Constant actor since his adolescence, Tyler Alvarez stars as Carlos, the store’s resident movie buff.
The son of immigrant parents, Carlos feels responsible for becoming a successful accountant but longs to pursue his real dream, the cinema. He finds himself at home surrounded by successful films but this is only a springboard for him.
Olga Merediz as Connie
Tony nominated actress Olga Merediz stars as Connie, the perpetually puzzled baby boomer with a sketchy memory for movie plots and a very strict sleep schedule.
With her long and checkered past, Connie has plenty of comedic potential to tap into, and she often comes out with a few nuggets of much-needed wisdom at the right time.
Kamaia Fairburn as Kayla
Kamaia Fairburn is Kayla, Percy’s teenage daughter who was hired by Timmy as a favor to her father. Kayla is smart, cynical and sarcastic, keeping everyone at the store in their place with a quick wit and a sharp tongue.
