“Splash” is by far the funniest episode of the series to date, as the Garvey sisters plan to kill their evil brother-in-law JP, for what seems like the umpteenth time now. The series’ twisted humor is allowed to run rampant as the siblings plot to drug the asshole and once again save Grace from her loveless marriage, leading to a hilarious climax sequence.

bad sisters summary of season 1, episode 6

Water and sex are the major themes of the sixth episode (yes, you heard that right) and the episode begins with Grace having a nightmare that involves both motifs. In this dream, she has sex with JP, it starts to rain on their marital bed, and then Grace finds JP dead under the covers. It’s a set of seemingly random events, but I’m sure there’s serious significance to each distinct section of the nightmare. Grace is then interrogated in the waking world by Thomas, who arrives unannounced to question her about JP’s suicide attempt. Thomas asks if JP was depressed and Grace struggles to answer these deeply personal questions posed to her. At the end, she wonders if it was all her fault and admits that JP never really talked about the incident, but it happened.

Thomas goes to the local hospital to pursue this lead and discovers a bombshell of evidence. He calls Matthew to discuss this vital information in more detail, but the half-brother is still not on good terms with Thomas after the fracas in the previous episode. He takes a day off and spends it with the enemy – Becka. These two are obviously playing with fire dating each other, but seem to like that added element of danger.

In the previous timeline, JP hopes to impress his boss and land that all-important promotion. He organizes to take Gérald on his sailing boat, but his boss gives up at the last minute. Neighbor Roger asks to join him on an impromptu fishing trip instead and JP responds with his usual venomous meanness. Roger decides to get revenge and while gardening, he flirts with Grace. JP returns home to find the two dancing on his front yard. In retaliation, JP calls the police and has Roger arrested for pedophilia – you don’t mess with this man. Now Roger has a big reason to want JP dead too, is he now also a suspect?

Grace takes an art class after failing dance class and strikes up a conversation with the nude model about sexuality. Stimulated by this conversation, she goes home and dresses in a revealing new babydoll. JP is appalled at her lude behavior and calls it a disgrace. Grace longs to be loved again and mentions that JP is taking those little blue pills to help her. JP belittles his wife and leaves her crying on the couple’s bed.

The sisters reinvigorate their plans to assassinate JP once again, but Bibi is deliberately distant. After the paintball incident, she won’t talk to the girls anymore. Becka is still reeling from Bibi’s punch and Eva refuses to make any other plans until Bibi returns. For once, Ursula seems to be the sister driving the evil plot forward. She suggests drugging JP with Rohypnol and drowning him in his own bath.

Feeling at rock bottom, Grace confides in her sisters. She worries that JP won’t find her attractive anymore, and the girls do their best to restore his confidence. Eva passes him a vibrator and tells him to take his shots where she can. Grace hides the vibrator in the bathroom and sure enough, JP quickly finds it. He confronts her in front of their daughter and blames Grace for her arousal issues. Grace runs away in shame, taking Blanaid on a sports trip.

The end

Becka and Bibi make amends and prepare their Rohypnol plan. Bibi suggests waiting for JP to come out for a takeout, then putting the medicine in his nasal spray. All the sisters meet in front of JP’s house and wait for the villain to leave. It’s another tense scene as they sneak into his house and plant the drugs. JP returns early and finds them almost in the house. They hide as best they can and wait for him to pass out before emerging. Becka quickly takes off JP’s pants as they run a lethal bath for the zombie. He suddenly wakes up and the girls hide beside the bed. In his drowsy state, JP urinates in the closet and then takes a bottomless drive. He goes to the port and looks for his boat.

The Garvey girls follow the drugged naturist to the harbor and watch from afar as he falls into the water. They remember that JP can’t swim and drowns right in front of them. Is this the suicide attempt the characters allude to in the current timeline? Or did they finally kill JP? You’ll have to wait for next week’s installment to find out JP’s fate.
