This article contains spoilers for the Netflix series Alice in Borderland season 2, episode 8, including an open discussion about the ending of Alice in Borderland Season 2.

It took a long time to get here, in more ways than one. As if the two-year wait for a second season wasn’t nerve-wracking enough, the extended runtimes of episodes of Alice in BorderlandsThe eight-episode second outing of – this finale alone is a feature – made the journey long but never quite arduous. Nevertheless, we are there, and there is still everything to play for.

Alice in Borderland Season 2 Ending Explained

To summarize, briefly, Arisu and his friends, only some of whom have survived so far, have reached the final battle with the queen of heartsa.k.a Mira. Arisu and Usagi are the two registered players, most of the gang members having been killed or seriously injured in the battle with the king of spades in Episode 7. Kuina, Ann, Aguni, Akaneand Chishiya are all dead or barely hanging on. Usagi has a few stab wounds herself.

It’s only fitting that the end game is most obviously Alice in Wonderland-inspired. It’s a game of croquet first that the pair don’t even need to win but simply complete three rounds. However, it’s too good to be true, and that’s very important here. Mira continues to employ stalling tactics as Usagi’s injuries worsen.

There’s certainly a sense of the season’s underlying themes catching up with the action here, though. The most persistent question that’s been asked throughout has been whether or not the group will be able to return to the real world when the games end, and for Arisu, Mira represents the potential answer to that question, so he presses her. on this subject. . In return, she spins false accounts, trying to convince him that it was all just an illusion born out of the trauma of losing Karube and Chota in a car accident. She claims to be a doctor treating him in a mental institution and that Usagi is another patient.

Fortunately, Usagi is able to bring them back to reality with a bit of self-harm, and Mira is actually moved enough by their genuine connection to concede. As has been a trend throughout the season, however, she is able to say very little before she is finally fatally shot through with a laser. Apparently, Arisu will have two choices, and whichever he chooses will reveal what kind of person he really is.

What does the end of Alice in Borderland season 2 mean?

After the games end, all surviving players are asked if they want to stay and become “citizens”, presumably like previous face card game masters, implying that there was a version of these games. before and of course there could be another version of them, with faces like Bandaged and yaba become citizens.

Needless to say, Arisu, Usagi, Kuina, Chishiya, Aguni, and Akane all decline – even Niragi Is.

It’s a lot like those who decline the offer to return to the real world, even though it’s damaged by a meteorite that they all mistake for fireworks. They are all patients in a hospital, united by the fact that their hearts stopped for a minute after the disaster, but otherwise strangers; they have no memory of what they experienced in Borderland. And yet there is a silent, unspoken connection between them as they walk through the hospital grounds, that sense of shared experience and feelings. It’s not quite a happy ending, but it’s close.

What does the Joker card mean?

However, one of the last things we see is a table in the gardens containing several cards which are carried and scattered by a light breeze, leaving only one Joker card behind. This implies that the gang remains in the game in one form or another and is about to face its toughest – or at least most unpredictable – challenge yet.

What does the Joker card mean? Probably nothing good. The connotations of the Joker card are rarely positive – in most card games they have some sort of special, often detrimental effect, and the whole idea of them is that they don’t look or behave. like the other cards in a deck, all of which are defined by their color and number. This could mean that Arisu and the others have gone out of the usual game settings, or just that they are tricked into believing the games are over when they are not.
