Alchemy of Souls season 1, episode 8 recap
That being said, it doesn’t take long for the truth to come out, even though the fake maid tries to fight off the young master for a short while. As such, the two embrace in emotional relief, both happy that the potential for tragedy has not arisen. However, the sweet feelings must soon be put aside, as it is not long before the conflict between the mage and the assassin resumes. Luckily, it’s not a long battle, as Jang Uk manages to quickly overwhelm his opponent, which pleases his master, who makes him realize that the Soul Ejector has helped increase the energy he has. previously could not control.
When Gil-ju wakes up again, disappointed that his grand plan has failed, he drops important information about Naksu’s father as a soul shapeshifter. This piques the interest of the person now living as Mu-deok, who presses his former associate for more information, and ends up shocked when she learns the real truth behind Cho Chung’s death. But any answers to who the real Danju is, and where they can be found given their powers to stop a soul-shifter from running amok, are beyond reach, as Gil-ju chooses to tightly grip Naksu instead. When Jang Uk then intervenes, the soul-altering assassin flees, followed by the young master at the behest of his teacher.
Wishing to take off before the poison of sorcery spreads, Mu-deok tries to escape the group of mages gathered at the temple to search for the soul-shifter. But the people led by Seo Yul soon have bigger matters to deal with when they find both Jang Uk’s soul ejector and link bracelet, causing some men to report what they saw. in Songrim. Meanwhile, Mu-deok manages to get to a safe place to reflect, upset after recalling the fact that she and her father will share the same fate of being petrified and then perishing.
This moment of calm is soon interrupted, however, as Seo Yul reunites with her former love while searching the forest. It’s not an entirely pleasant reunion, as the genius mage hurt Mu-deok in the process, but the resulting reflection on why she appeared before him again at a time of conflict seems more important. Elsewhere, Gil-ju searches for people to steal energy from the city, while Jang Uk is thrown into his quest to find the soul-shifter by two women who believe the young master has followed them to an inn. We find out that one such person is Lady Heo, a woman who seems to be wanted by potential suitors, and therefore thinks Jang Uk must be one of them.
However, the young master bluntly explains why this is not the case, causing Lady Heo to think in embarrassment that night, unable to eat. Unfortunately, this leaves her open enough for the Soul Shifter to pursue her, but Jang Uk is still there to save the day, interrupting the wrong move with enough impact to cause another escape. As a result, Lady Heo is grateful, even though the young woman cannot explain that she is part of the same Sejukwon who was recommended to her for treatment.
As Seo Yul tends to the person he now knows to be Naksu, further reflecting on his past, Gil-ju stumbles into the village, weakened by his lack of energy. Stumbling, he steals a rag and continues his walk towards what Jang Uk believes to be the real Danju, while Jin Mu receives the information of his missing right arm in Cheongbugwan. There, the sleazy gwanju also learns of Jang Uk’s potential involvement with Naksu, enraged that he hadn’t heard of this information sooner. “Order all of our mages to look for Gil-ju,” he says, as we cut to an explanation that Dang-gu has been tasked with finding the missing young master, and see Master Lee’s confidence that Jang Uk will have. been safe because of Mu-deok.
Simultaneously, Park Jin hears servant Kim talking about Jang Gang’s interest in soul alchemy, deciphering that he had to perform it in order for Do-hwa to give birth to Jang Uk as the king’s son. His concerns are allayed, however, by the news of the current return of the spell and who they may have managed to impact. Meanwhile, Jang Uk tracks Gil-ju to the Royal Palace, where the soul-shifter seeks urgent entry. Such ambitions are trampled on, however, as security fought a long enough fight to allow the intervention of the young master and the ensuing triumphant victory over the monster. Declaring his ambitions to take the ice stone from the palace, Jang Uk watches his foe fall, ready to get to work.
The next day, Jin Mu receives Gil-ju’s corpse, along with an explanation that the assassin was defeated by Tansu’s use. Shocked, the gwanju wizard wonders which mage could have mastered the spell given that it was Naksu’s specialty, before Park Jin arrives ready to investigate. Confirming the Soul Shifter’s identity, the Songrim leader realizes that Jin Mu is also freaking out and will not have been aware of the Soul Alchemy being performed. So he leaves things as they are, with the only request that he be asked for help when needed. Elsewhere, the royal family hears about the events, curious as to why Gil-ju was heading to their palace before his death, while gossip spreads all around Daeho that Naksu has reappeared.
After a flirtatious scene between Park Jin and servant Kim, Seo Yul talks to Jang Uk about her task of tracing the root of the witchcraft from the previous night. There, they discuss the bonding bracelet, in addition to the condition of the injured Mu-deok, who had been treated for her heavy injuries. So Jang Uk rushes to his location, only to be quickly forced to pretend he has fled from the conflict in an effort to allay the suspicions of the mages watching him. Although Seo Yul still doubts and vocally wonders if Jang Uk indeed just ran away.
Warned to keep a low profile until his duel with the crown prince, Jang Uk seems content with his current life, while Seo Yul confronts Mu-deok about his talent for being at his master’s side as he risks his death. life to achieve what he wants. Swearing that he might have to let her die the next time that happens, the maid looks shocked, before being told by the young master to go home. Later, the Seo family genie informs Park Jin about Jang Uk’s condition, with the Songrim leader thinking deeply as he and Heo Yeom attempt to uncover the mysterious mage’s identity. There is also evidence of uncertainty, as Park Jin grows curious about Seo Yul’s injury, right after asking about Mu-deok’s potential testimony about the fate.
Following a scene that shows rumors of a marriage between Dang-gu and Cho-yeon spreading, the mage Songrim lies saying that such hearsay is true to save face, knowing that nothing substantial is wrong. will result. Next, we see a scene that shows the Crown Prince’s affection for Mu-deok, as he defends the person he calls “dirty” from criticism from others while offering the maid a subtle compliment. .
As we see that the “tissue Naksu” has become a fashion trend, Seo Yul and Dang-gu talk about the speculation surrounding the assassin’s alleged return, as well as how it means people have lost interest in Jang Uk’s upcoming duel with the Crown Prince. The former is concerned about his friend’s current location, however, which we see turns out to be the Soul Shifters’ grave. There, the two allies search for Naksu’s father, but the assassin also worries about his own potential to go on a rampage and whether or not his student will leave her at the grave when it happens. The answer is simple, that Jang Uk knows where the real Danju is, who can potentially stop the event that worries Mu-deok so much.
After Park Jin questions Master Lee about the truth behind the ice stone, we return to Jin Mu, who is visited by the real Danju, the queen. Here she explains that when the Choi family regains power, Songrim will be destroyed and the day it will control Daeho is approaching. Wizard gwanju claims to have been waiting for this moment, so appears to complete the challenge when tasked with killing the person who defeated Gil-ju, knowing that they too must know that the ice stone has not been destroyed . Meanwhile, Jang Uk explains his knowledge of the stone’s location to his master, adding in comments that he will eventually enter the palace walls to find the item for Mu-deok.
Remaining adamant that Jang Uk should be allowed to participate in the duel if he wishes, Park Jin explains to Seo Yul that he will only exist as a spectator and either die or run away without intervention. . With that in mind, we head into battle, watching the entrances of the myriad important viewers, all witnessing the expected game. The stakes here are high given that Jang Uk’s rights to become the next Gwanju are at stake if he doesn’t appear by noon, rights that look set to be forfeited given the doors of the training center are to be closed. at noon.
However, to many people’s surprise, Jang Uk emerges, ready to face the duel that could end his life. What follows is intense, with the Young Master’s defensive tactics working well in the opening, but soon comes to a head when the carefully placed water pots have been smashed by a suspicious Jin Mu. This leaves Jang Uk firmly on the back foot, forcing Mu-deok to use his own blood to enable the successful use of Tansu, much to the shock of the audience.
The Young Master’s victory in the duel is however quickly disputed by Jin Mu, who believes that what happened constitutes cheating, and that someone must have been helping Jang Uk in secret given his quick learning of Tansu. He is of course right, and the incredible claims that the skill was single-handedly learned doesn’t resonate with questionable parties, but nevertheless Jang Uk eventually bails out when Master Lee appears, ready to back up the claims made by the victor. Thus, the young master wins, which elicits mixed reactions from the spectators. However, none are more immediately poignant than that of the queen, as she immediately demands that Jang Uk be brought to Cheonbugwan, presumably suspicious of the mage’s sudden skills.
When offers arrive from Cheonbugwan, Sejukwon, Jinyowon, and Songrim, Jang Uk suddenly finds himself wanted by those who shunned him, leaving him confused enough to consult Mu-deok on where he should go. As expected, the prime location is Songrim, and as Park Jin watches the young master, flanked by an emotional crowd, the episode ends.
