October 22, 2022

We recap the Apple TV+ series Acapulco season 2, episode 1, “Break My Stride,” which contains spoilers.

Season 1 of Acapulco was a fun ride but left a lot to be desired. However, I was delighted to learn that they had announced that there was a season 2 because I felt like they could right some wrongs from the previous season. Let’s dive into the first episode of season two.

Recap – what happened in Acapulco season 2, episode 1?

Season 2 kicked off with Maximo (Eugene Derbez) and Hugo (Raphael Alejandro) heading to a private jet. Maximo explains how he has planned the best trip for the duo when they land in Acapulco, as he can show them all the best places in town. He opens the route book, and Joe has included a place Maximo refuses to go. Hugo wonders what the place is, but Maximo changes the subject so they can move on.

Changing the subject, Maximo says it’s time for the “mostly” true story of his rags to riches. So we go back to 1985, where a young Maximo struggles to get over everything that happened at the end of 1984. Then we see Hugo and Memo discussing the pool boy getting a promotion, which which means he’s next in line for the job. . Naturally, Memo is delighted because they will finally be able to work together.

We move inside to their boss announcing the plans for the day. Julia intervenes with some excitement, getting Maximo in a bit of trouble as he thinks she has recently gotten engaged, breaking his little heart. As Maximo is ready to leave the meeting, he uses another exit to avoid Julia. Then we see Chad approach Julia, and that’s when we find out that there may not have been a “yes” answer from Julia about the marriage proposal. Chad tries to discuss what happened between the two, but she backs out of the conversation.

Maximo is now looking for Hector to talk about the job that is about to open. We move into Hector’s office, a very small office of which Hector is very proud. Maximo congratulates him on his new job and has a seat to talk to him. He asks her to put aside their old differences and give him his old job. Hector considers the idea and suggests to Maximo that he needs a wheelchair. Of course, Maximo sees this as a chance to impress Hector into getting his old job and biting.

Went down to the laundry room to start work, but Memo is confronted by his boss, the aunt of the girl he is dating, and she informs him that everyone is sick today and only he will be the one working. . Also, she says the washing machine isn’t working (they work with broken labels) and she can’t return it for personal reasons (she checked), but if it doesn’t do its job , she can. And without a job, he won’t have the girl because his niece wants a man with a job.

At the office, we see Diane talking about how she finally landed the money to save the station. Don Pablo is thrilled to hear the news and tries to share a story with Diane, but she won’t listen to him. Then, as Maximo pulls out chairs from a desk, Don Pablo stops him to ask what he is doing. First he tells her to take a chair or two, then Don Pablo says they have to talk about the night before. Finally, as Maximo leaves, he realizes that he is trying to avoid this confrontation because of the way he talked to Don Pablo.

Maximo walks away from the offices and talks about avoiding Don Pablo, and he sees Julia at the reception. He tries to avoid her, but she stops him and tries to figure out what’s going on with him. Maximo acts awkward while Julia breaks down the proposal, was weird, and Maximo tries to tell her it’s okay and runs away.

We see Maximo pushing the chairs and he bumps into Isabel, who is not staying at the resort and steals pens from the place. He jokes around and calls security, but she explains and the duo spend some time together. Back at Hector’s office, where he is trying out the chair, Maximo has some for him. Maximo asks if Memo has the job, but Hector says he can’t give him the job without interviewing him first.

Well, back at the reception, we see Isabel again, but she gives Julia a big hug. After some small talk, Isabel asks about the engagement and says they’ve had their ups and downs lately, and she’s not sure if she wants to marry him. Julia’s advice is to make a choice and go for it.

Sara freaks out and finds Roberta because she thinks her mom is over their relationship and Roberta is “fake” with Maximo so they can spend time together. They both freak out about how bad it could be for them. Finally, Maximo informs Memo that he has obtained an interview with Hector for the job opening. Memo is obviously delighted as he struggles in the laundry room. Afterwards, Memo explains that he has to finish the laundry and he’s almost done until Lupe comes downstairs with a basket FULL of things to wash.

The end

Maximo follows suit and frees his turtle, and as everyone watches excitedly, Maximo realizes that he may be that baby turtle. As he breaks down comparisons, Hugo interrupts the story to ask him if he really compares himself to the turtles. Maximo says, “Why not? They are adorable and roll with it. The turtle made him realize that he needed to stop avoiding things and face everything in his path.

So we see Maximo go hunting wild geese. But, first, he confronts Hector to find out what it will take for Memo to get the job. Hector responds with half his tips and Maximo agrees. Afterwards, Maximo confronts Julia to tell her that he is happy for her and Chad. Then, today, Maximo and Hugo land together in Acapulco. Finally, as we see Maximo lying and saying it was Memo’s talent that got him the job, Maximo realizes it’s time to confront Don Pablo.

As he expects Don Pablo to entrust him with the task of talking to him as he did, Don Pablo kisses him because it brings him closer to his family. He lets her know that at the end of the summer, he will have to be much closer to Diane. He hands her a set of keys and tells her to start laying the groundwork to be his right-hand man.
