Where was Westworld season 4 filmed?

June 26, 2022

Developed by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, Westworld is a science fiction series based on the 1973 film of the same name directed by Michael Crichton and its 1976 sequel titled Futureworld and directed by Richard T. Heffron. The futuristic wild west fantasy park Westworld is a place maintained and operated by human androids. What sets this amusement park apart from others is that it allows its guests to live out their surreal or bizarre desires and fantasies with the help of an artificial mind. But only the richest of the rich can afford these services.

However, when the robot hosts malfunction, all hell breaks loose in Westworld. The fourth season picks up seven years after the events of the season 3 finale. While Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) now has the ability to see into the future, the Man in Black (Ed Harris) has gotten even more evil. A whole new character is introduced with Christina (Evan Rachel Wood). While the dramatic and suspenseful storyline keeps viewers entertained in every episode, the futuristic fantasy park setting combined with the robotic theme makes one wonder where the series was actually filmed. Let us explain all the details to you!

Westworld season 4 filming locations

Westworld Season 4 was filmed in New York, California and Nevada, specifically New York City and Santa Clarita. Filming for the fourth season of the dystopian series began in June 2021 and was paused for a few days in late July 2021. Finally, filming was completed in December of the same year. Let’s dive into the special locations that form the futuristic backdrop for the sci-fi series!

New York City, New York

Much of Westworld Season 4 was filmed in New York City, the most populous city in the US in upstate New York. The production team set up camp in the SoHo and Financial District (aka FiDi) neighborhoods of lower Manhattan to film some of the pivotal scenes of season four. In October 2021, the series’ cast and crew were spotted filming some scenes at Pier 26 and Pier 34 in Hudson River Park.

Santa Clarita, California

The production team returned to Santa Clarita, where they had filmed previous seasons of the show, to film some key scenes in Season 4. They primarily used the facilities of Melody Ranch Studios at 24715 Oak Creek in the Parish of Newhall. The studio houses sound stages ranging in size from 11,200 to 22,000 square feet and a versatile backlot to accommodate all production needs. It also has thousands of square meters of fully equipped production offices.

Nevada

Some scenes for Westworld Season 4 were also filmed at the famous Hoover Dam, which is right on the border between the states of Nevada and Arizona. Constructed between 1931 and 1936, the dam is a concrete gravity dam located in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. Due to its popularity, nearly a million people from all over the world visit the impressive dam every year.
