How and where was the black stallion shot?
The Black Stallion is a 1979 American adventure film based on Walter Farley’s timeless 1941 children’s story of the same name. The film begins in 1946, five years after the novel was published. The book is about the adventures of the boy Alec Ramsey, who is shipwrecked with a wild Arabian stallion and stranded on a deserted island. After being rescued, they want to compete against two champion horses.
Melissa Mathison, Jeanne Rosenberg and William D. Wittliff developed the screenplay for the film. Kelly Reno, Teri Garr, Hoyt Axton, Mickey Rooney and Arabian horse Cass Ole star in this Carroll Ballard film. The music was composed by Carmine Coppola, father of Hollywood filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, who is also credited as the film’s executive producer.
Each year since 2002, the Library of Congress has selected 25 films for inclusion in the United States National Film Registry for their cultural, historical, or artistic significance, and The Black Stallion was one of them.

How and where was The Black Stallion filmed?
Toronto, Sardinia and Rome’s Cinecittà Studios were just a few of the locations where The Black Stallion was filmed. The shipwreck scene was filmed in a giant water tank at Cinecittà Studios.
Most of the film revolves around the Arabian champion stallion Cass Ole; his main counterpart is the black Arabian stallion Fae Jur. Alec’s attempt to gain the black man’s trust on the beach is the focus of the main scene of Fae Jur. The running, fighting and swimming scenes were performed by two other stunt doubles shown.
Egyptian-Arabian racehorse El Mokhtar was the producers’ original option to play the black man, but his owners turned down the filming. The studio eventually bought out the syndicate of owners and negotiated El Mokhtar’s appearance in The Black Stallion Returnswhere he co-stars with Cass Ole.
Junior, most known for his portrayal of Niedermeyer’s horse, Trooper, in National Lampoon’s Animal House, played Napoleon.
