Jesse Powell was an American singer-songwriter specializing in R&B and soul. He passed away on September 13, 2022. Founded by Louil Silas Jr., Powell is best known for his single You, which reached #2 on R&B and #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Powell, the older brother of Trina and Tamara, two other contemporary R&B singers, has released four albums. Powell’s four octave vocal range has been recognized. He was nominated for a Grammy.

Tamara posted a message on her Instagram account on September 14, 2022 announcing Jesse’s death. However, she was careful not to reveal any details about the singer’s death.

Tamara wrote in her post: It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell. He died quietly at home in Los Angeles. At this time, as we mourn his tragic passing and celebrate his enduring legacy, the family requests privacy.

On September 12, 1971, Jesse Powell was born in Gary, Indiana. He grew up with his three siblings, Jacob, Trina and Tamara, who later became well-known R&B singers and whose song What’d You Come Here For? reached #56 on the Billboard Hot 100. They also had a brother named Jacob.

He was an avid participant in church music for most of his childhood, spent with his family in Gary, Indiana. Powell completed his high school education at a private school in Gary, Indiana, and then continued his education at Hampton University.

Powell and his siblings entered regional talent shows in the early 1990s, and he was eventually caught by a producer named Carl Roland. He subsequently worked with label boss Louil Silas Jr.

Powell and Louis began making music after Powell was signed to his label, Silas Records. Three years later, in 1996, Powell released All I Need, a minor hit that peaked at #32 on the Billboard R&B Music Chart.

The title track from Powell’s second album, released the same year and following his debut album, peaked at number 35 on the Billboard R&B Music chart. His second album grew his fan base, and he eventually created a cover of the timeless song Gloria, which was first released by R&B group Enchantment that same year and peaked at #51 on the Billboard R&B Music Chart.
