What does BLACKPINK’s Jennie have to do with the Netflix series Squid Game?

November 11, 2021

The Squid Game fame has brought BLACKPINK’s Jennie into a new dimension with her connection with the band members. The rapper is not only friends with HoYeon Jung, Lee Jung-jae also has something to do with the origin of her name.

When Jennie appeared on the JTBC show Knowing Bros last year, she revealed that Jung-jae, who starred Seong Gi-hun in Squid Game, is the inspiration for her name. The BLACKPINK member said her mom is a huge fan of the 48-year-old South Korean actor who played the role of Jae Hee in the drama Sandglass before she was born.

Her mother decided that when she had a son she would name him Jaehee, according to AllKpop. But since she gave birth to a daughter instead, she named her Jennie, which was very close to the sound of Jaehee.

So when the SOLO hitmaker met Jung-jae in person, she told him the story behind her name. Since he is a fan of BLACKPINK himself, the former model was happy that the mother of his idol is his fan.

In an interview in September, Jung-jae revealed that he immediately became a fan of the girl group when he saw the preview of BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky. It was then that he realized that the k-pop idols had risen to become the world’s number 1 girl group due to tough competition and hard work.

In the meantime, Jennie is connected to the Netflix hit Squid Game through HoYeon as well as Jung-jae. The two are close friends, and Korea’s Next Top Model runner-up told Vogue that they grew closer after meeting at Paris Fashion Week.

Known as the human Chanel, she watched the brand’s show and they met through Jennie’s stylist, who knew both of them. After they met by chance, they were introduced to each other.

From then on, HoYeon attended her concert in New York and they started dating. They also shared the food in South Korea, and they often ate together.

HoYeon added that she and Jennie get along very well because they are in the same age group. Plus, they both work in the entertainment industry so they get along really well.

When the two got together again this weekend at the 10th annual LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles, the fans couldn’t help but be happy, reports IBTimes. Fans even celebrate their reunion after Jennie and HoYeon share their photo together.
