Originally a shonen manga created by Ken Wakui, the anime adaptation of Tokyo Revengers has already begun. The manga, which appears in Weekly Shonen Magazine, has been in print since March 2017 and had, as of February 2020, 3 million copies in circulation. In April 2021, the series reached 22 volumes in Japan, and the English version released by Kodansha is not far behind with 20 volumes released in April 2021.
In this series, the main character is Takemichi Hanagaki, a grown man living a gloomy existence, and while telling himself that life can’t be worse, he sees on the news that a girl he dated in college ( the only girl had ever attended) was killed by an unleashed gang. Suddenly, our hero is sent 12 years ago to college, which he decides to use by infiltrating the gang that murdered his ex-girlfriend and trying to avoid disaster.
The anime is produced by LIDENFILMS and is directed by Koichi Hatsumi based on scripts written by Yasuyuki Muto and character designs by Keiko Ota. The first episode aired on April 11 and will be the subject of a live-action film adaptation in Japan, with a premiere scheduled for summer 2021.
Tokyo Revengers Dub anime release date in English
The good news is that as of April 12, 2021, it has been made official that this series will be dubbed into English on Crunchyroll. We’re not sure when exactly the English dub will be released, but stay tuned for updates as they become available.
Tokyo Revengers seems like the squeaky drama that I could really sink my teeth into this season. Although I haven’t seen the first episode yet, I can’t wait to see it in the near future, when I have some free time to catch up on the new season. While I don’t always like series that skip time, this could be one that breaks that trend for me and helps me find my feet in this often tricky genre.
