The Goldbergs Season 9 Episode 9 Recap
Episode 9, titled Tennis People (FKA I Got In / Tennis Club), begins with Adam receiving news that he has been accepted to NYU. However, when he learns that his girlfriend is going to go to Brown University, his heart breaks at the prospect of losing her relationship. He takes advice from his brother Barry, who adds to the notion that they might drift apart in Adam’s head. Meanwhile, Beverly and Ginzy are in the process of planning Erica’s baby shower.
The perfect location for the event turns out to be a tennis club, which they like a lot, but the admissions committee chair is led by Beverly’s arch-nemesis, Jane Bales. She invites Beverly to a tennis match the next day, which Jane expected to easily win. All Beverly needs now is the help of the board of directors so she can host the baby shower at the club. However, her application is denied and she immediately realizes that it must have been Jane who denied her the opportunity.
Later, the person responsible turns out to be shocking as Ginzy, who admits to have been bullied by Beverly so much that she no longer wants to help her. Beverly finally realizes how tough she has been and apologizes, and the two make up. Her need to book the club suddenly becomes less important than her friendship with Ginzy. Meanwhile, Adam does everything in his power to be close to Brea, which eventually upsets her. In the end, he begins to understand that change is inevitable, and while not sure whether a long-distance relationship can be successful, he is ready to give it a try.
