Although one of the main actors recently left the series, season 9 of The Blacklist has promised to return with a lot of danger and mystery for the main characters. The final season left the fates of several characters up in the air, including Red and Liz. But, after learning the truth about her true identity and how far Katarina went to protect her, Neville Townsend’s gunman shot dead Liz.
With the departure of Megan Boone, everything could take a 360 degree turn. So now, let’s see what the creator has prepared for us for season 9 of The Blacklist.
THE BLACK LIST SEASON 9: WHO COULD BE PART OF THE CASTING?
The end of the eighth season left the lives of many important players in the air. But we can still say that James Spader will return as Raymond “Red” Reddington, who will continue to play his cards to expand his empire for the remainder of the series.
Besides him, the other main characters, including Diego Klattenhoff in the role of Donald Ressler, will be back. Harry Lennix (Harold Cooper) and Hisham Tawfiq (Dembe Zuma) will also be present. Even Amir Arison as Aram Mojtabai will return with Laura Sohn as Alina Park. However, Laila Robins as Katarina Rostova will not be returning as Red killed her in the last season.
MEGAN BOONE LEFT THE SERIES
Before the season four finale aired, “Liz” star Megan Boone announced that she would be leaving the show for good. However, it was later revealed that they made the decision earlier, before season eight, and that it was mutual. This allowed the writers to craft an appropriate send-off for Boone’s character. In the end, one of Neville Townsend’s henchmen took Liz down when she decided to take over Red’s empire.
Speaking of leaving, Boone said he’s now looking to explore other offerings. However, those eight years have helped her see the world from Liz’s perspective. But today, she is grateful that her story ends on a positive note where she finally found the answers she was looking for. Also, Boone wrote in his post that he loved spending time on set with his co-stars and the amazing crew.
JON BOKENKAMP LEAVES SHOWRUNNER STATION
Shortly after Boone left, another bomb hit the Black List. Longtime series creator Jon Bokenkamp has left the series to step out of his comfort zone. Jon wrote in his post that he really liked this series and had an amazing experience working with the other cast members. But now she thinks it’s a good time to explore other stories and characters that crossed her mind.
Jon added that he was torn between many emotions when he decided to step aside. But he sincerely believes that The Blacklist will continue to be very creative, strong, and vibrant for seasons to come. In addition to Jon, John Eisendrath was also the show’s co-showrunner, and he still appears on the show. So after Jon’s departure, John will be the only showrunner for the series.
BLACKLIST SEASON 9: HOW WILL RED TREAT HIS LOSS?
Throughout the series, the dynamic between Red and Liz played a large role in the storytelling of the series. But Liz’s death in the final episode could be a game changer and bring a new perspective to the search for Red. He would set up a plan of revenge to destroy Townsend’s entire empire, including Liz’s killer. Also, I would pay more attention to Agnes, Liz’s daughter.
Meanwhile, it remains to be discovered how Ressler and the others will deal with Liz’s death. Most likely, Red will be blamed for the loss and find himself in a difficult situation. Additionally, Red’s health issue could be explored, leaving fans wondering if he could die if he can’t be cured. So if season 9 is your last, that would be a perfect way to retire.
THE BLACKLIST SEASON 9: WHEN WILL IT BE RELEASED?
It looks like fans won’t have to wait long to stream season nine. Season 9 of The Blacklist will begin airing on Thursday, October 21 at 8 pm ET / 7 pm CT on NBC only. In season eight, he followed Wednesday’s schedule before switching to Friday night. But it seems that once again the series will follow a different schedule than the previous season.
