Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 4 Recap
In the fourth episode, titled Anything Is Possible, Discovery starts its joint mission with the Qowat Milat, while the Ni’Var has cemented its re-entry into the United Federation. Meanwhile, Starfleet’s ship is in poor shape. Burnham advises the crew to take some time to recover while they initiate the federation of Ni’Var. Burnham is asked to fill in for Admiral Vance, who is uncomfortable.
Tilly and Adira are forced to mentor the new Starfleet Academy, but the recruits feel uncomfortable with the multitude of species involved. Although Kovich is determined to overcome this problem, a training mission goes awry when the ship crashes with Tilly, Adira, and the cadets in a zone far away. It is also attacked by an energy-sensitive beast that forces Tilly to seek help from a nearby ship.
Although Ni’Var is now a member of the Federation, President T’Rina wants a release clause in case they have to leave the alliance. Federation President Rillak sees this as a threat to his vision, so Ni’Var begins to reconsider his membership. As they slowly make their way back, Tilly and Adira try to settle the argument between the cadets. A few moments later, the USS Armstrong finally comes to their aid, whereupon Kovich decides to offer Tilly a teaching position at the Starfleet Academy.
In order to defuse the existing friction between Ni’Var and the council, Burnham is acting as a mediator. Their interference eventually leads Ni’Var to rejoin the Federation. Although Burnham is happy with the result, she accuses Rillak of not being completely honest on administrative matters. In the end, she has a conversation with Tilly, who realizes that the opportunity to teach at Starfleet Academy is exactly what she needs. Even if she leaves the academy, she will always come back whenever her old friend needs help.
