Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 3 Recap
Episode 3 of Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 is titled Choose to Live. In the episode we see the United Federation and Starfleet try to recover from the damaging effects of the fire. The re-energized organization is plagued by an undefined anomaly that even the USS Discovery cannot explain or analyze. Meanwhile, Starfleet is concerned that the outsiders are targeting their shipments of dilithium to some allies.
The USS Credence is on a mission to deliver Dilithium to a civilization that is rejoining the United Federation. However, you are attacked by a hooded group of thieves who eventually disappear with the Dilithium. Admiral Vance identifies the group leader as a citizen of their ally Ni’Var, the remodeled version of the Vulcan-Romulan homeworld. However, Starfleet had a tracking device installed in the Dilithium that could lead them to the criminals.
The leader of the Qowat Milat, Gabrielle Burnham, steps in because the leader of the thieves is known to her. Rillak tells Burnham that because of their intellect they need the Ni’Var in the Federation. Paul Stamets submits the observed data from the anomaly to Ni’Var Science Academy, but the scientists are not satisfied with the data collected. Gray’s consciousness eventually inhabits the synthetic body that Doctor Hugh Culber prepared for him while Sylvia Tilly joins Burnham on the mission with the Qowat Milat.
After a series of challenges and a single death, the team discovers that these thieves have established a base on the moon that they operate with Dilithium. The landing party is ambushed and the thief leader claims he has valuable latinum, an item coveted by the most notorious of robbers. So they need Dilithium to protect themselves until they reach their new homeworld. Burnham eventually reunites with Book, who is recovering on the Discovery.
