Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 2 Recap

“Star Trek: Discovery” Season 4 Episode 2, titled “Anomaly,” begins with Discovery in the process of reorganizing the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet. Shortly afterwards, Captain Michael Burnham and her crew are shocked by the destruction of the Kwejian. Book is the only survivor, which Burnham Saru reveals, who then becomes first officer of the Discovery again. It is said that the source of the anomaly that caused the destruction are roving black holes that engulf all matter.

President Rillak allows Discovery to investigate but keeps its true nature a secret. As the Discovery approaches the anomaly, Book decides to use his private ship for the investigation, and Burnham initially protests. Burnham protests initially. However, she later agrees on the condition that Stamets fly with Book to collect data on the anomaly. Elsewhere, Dr. Culber created a synthetic body for Gray Tal who is enthusiastic about bringing his consciousness into a concrete form. While the investigation continues, the Discovery’s systems accidentally separate from Book’s spaceship as it approaches the anomaly.

Book is blinded by visions when the ruins of his destroyed planet form a ring of debris around the planet. Saru asks Burnham to open up to Book, who is understandably heartbroken after his home planet has been wiped out. When Burnham says a few motivating words, Book somehow finds the strength to make it back to the bigger ship. However, the path of the singularity turns out to be a chaotic trajectory that threatens the safety of the planet.
