The long wait has finally come to an end. Rihanna is returning to the music scene with the upcoming release of her new song Lift Me Up.
Rihanna announced her return on Wednesday, October 26, in a post on Instagram that included a teaser for her new music. So will there be a new album?
A large silver R can be seen in the clip, while the pop star’s hum can be heard in the background. Later the date 10/28/22 is revealed which is believed to be the track’s official release date.
However, the song will not be part of their new album, but is set to be included in the soundtrack of the upcoming Marvel film, Wakanda Forever, which the studio itself announced on Twitter on Tuesday, October 25. As expected, many were celebrating the news on social media, trending it and filling their comment second with excitement.
It’s also reportedly a musical tribute to the film’s late lead actor, Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular superhero in the first Black Panther film. He died in August 2020 after being diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, which quickly progressed to stage IV after just four years.
Meanwhile, Rihanna is already expected to return to the music scene after confirming in September that she will be headlining the 2023 Super Bowl in Phoenix. She will also appear in the fourth installment of the Savage x Fenty fashion show for Prime Video.
It’s been six years since the Barbary beauty released her last album, Anti, which stayed at #1 on the Billboard 200 for two weeks. Her last hit in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 was the song Love on the Brain, which peaked at number 5 in March 2017.
Her last top 10 hit on the Hot 100 was DJ Khaled’s Wild Thoughts featuring Bryson Tiller, which peaked at #2 in July 2017. Her last chart appearance was the song Believe It featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR which peaked at number 23 in April 2020.
Since then, Rihanna has repeatedly teased her new album, but so far nothing has come of it. Lately, she’s reportedly been focusing on her personal ventures.
She is the new mom to a five-month-old son who she shares with partner A$AP Rocky. Rihanna has also focused on her Savage x Fenty venture. Nevertheless, many have been waiting for their new music.
