The Netflix movie All of Us Are Dead is currently grabbing everyone’s attention with its interesting story about the zombie outbreak at a small university. With South Korea on the rise with a slew of hit zombie dramas and movies, many are excited to see what this movie has to offer.
Will All of Us Are Dead, based on Joo Dong Geun’s webtoon, be different from other zombie series in South Korea? The series is currently receiving mixed reviews from some of the most well-known film critics.
AllKpop noted that some critics claimed the new drama’s popularity would manage to surpass that of Squid Game. But some criticized the cast’s acting skills.
Pierce Conran of the South China Morning Post only gave the series two stars out of five, according to AllKpop. He said that while the first episode impressed with its energy, the subsequent episodes had some cracks that got progressively worse as time went on.
He added that the series covered a range of issues including bullying at school, college entrance exams, social inequality, blackmail pornography, nepotism and teenage pregnancy. There were also allusions to a number of modern historical tragedies, such as the Gwangju massacre and the sinking of the Sewol ferry.
Hollywood Critics Association member Rama, on the other hand, has a more positive review for All of Us Are Dead. He said that if Squid Game would be a big hit in 2021, All of Us Are Dead would make it this year, calling it an exciting and never boring drama.
Meanwhile, South Korea is known for delivering some of the best zombie apocalypse-themed projects, but director Lee Jae Kyoo promised All of Us Are Dead would bring new meaning to the genre, according to Rappler. Although there is a lot of zombie content in the series, it would deal with the future of adults when they encounter a zombie virus.
Another special feature of the series are the young characters and the fixed setting. The outbreak takes place in a very confined classroom with young students who don’t know what to do.
The drama shows the kind of choices they have, which makes it even more interesting and compelling. All of Us Are Dead, which premieres on Netflix on Friday, January 28, tells the story of a virus-ridden school whose students are doing their best to protect themselves from a zombie apocalypse.
