Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi, Made in Abyss is an adventure fantasy anime that follows Riko, a young girl who wants to explore the great and mysterious gaping chasm that leads to the depths the earth leads. The people trying to unravel the mysteries of the Abyss are called divers, and the bravest among them are known as the White Whistles. Despite being just a beginner, Riko decides to descend into the depths of the abyss when she encounters a mysterious robot whose technology seems to have been developed in the farthest reaches of the mysterious abyss.
The series, which premiered on July 7, 2017, earned critical acclaim for its brilliant storytelling and exceptional worldbuilding. The anime also garnered a huge worldwide following, leading to the production of three films and a second part. After the conclusion of the second part, there was speculation on social media about the expected return of the anime. If you are also curious, we have found a solution for you.
Made in Abyss season 3 release date
‘Made in Abyss’ Season 2 was released on July 6, 2022 and ended almost three months later on September 28, 2022. The second season of the series consists of twelve episodes with a running time of around 24 minutes each.
If you’re a fan of the series and are eagerly awaiting its return, then you may have a long wait ahead of you. So far, neither Studio Kinema Citrus nor other companies involved in the production or distribution of the series have officially commented on the future of the series. Like the first installment, the latest season of the adventure fantasy series is rated as one of the best anime of all time on Myanimelist. The reviews on other platforms are also consistently positive. In addition, the series continues to be very popular among anime fans as its worldwide fanbase grows every year.
Looking at these factors, one might think that the series renewal is a given. While that’s true, the problem the creators face is the lack of source material to adapt. The first two seasons already comprise 10 of 11 volumes in Akihito Tsukushi’s manga series. The highly erratic release of new volumes only adds to the overall uncertainty of the series’ return. Ideally, the makers need at least four more volumes.
However, historically only one volume has been released per year, meaning the anime renewal committee will have to wait until 2026 to greenlight the series. Even if that happens, production and other factors will still increase the wait time. Assuming things aren’t delayed even further, fans can expect Made in Abyss season 3 to arrive sometime in 2027.
Made in Abyss Season 3 Plot: What can it be about?
In the season 2 finale, Faputa fights the beasts that have invaded the Narehate village of Ilblu. Not only does she manage to push them back, but she eventually achieves her goal of destroying the village to free her mother. Wazukiyan dies before this happens, and although Vueko survives the event, she dies soon after after telling Faputa some stories about her mother. Seeing her mourning the deaths of Vueko and Gaburoon, Reg offers to accompany him and his friends on their future adventures, which she reluctantly accepts.
In season 3, after the destruction of the Narehate village of Ilblu, Riko and her friends decide to explore the depths of the 6th plane, not knowing what challenges await them there. In the meantime, Faputa will be hot on their heels. When they stumble upon a Field of Eternal Happiness, they come to the conclusion that the White Pipes, like Riko’s mother, may very well be near them. However, when Faputa takes Lyza’s White Whistle and analyzes it, she is shocked by what she is trying to tell her. From that moment on, the life of Riko and her friends will change in unimaginable ways.
