Based on a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mogusu, “Koi to Yobu ni wa Kimochi Warui” or “It’s disgusting to call that love” or simply “Koikimo” is a middle-aged love anime. The story revolves around the ever-changing relationship between Ryou Amakusa, a 20-year-old womanizer, and Ichika Arima, a 17-year-old high school student. They meet when Ichika saves Ryou by preventing him from falling down the stairs. He will later find out that she is best friends with his sister, Rio. Ryou almost instantly falls in love with Ichika, which the latter initially finds unsettling. But as the series progresses and Ichika gets to know Ryou, he begins to have feelings for each other.

While there are many staunch supporters of the project and the source material it is based on, an almost equal number of people have criticized the anime for its portrayal of the middle-aged romance. Ichika is worried because she stopped receiving calls from Ryou. When she tries to talk to Rio about it, her friend tells her to call Ryou. When Ichika tries to do this, Ryou seems cold and distant. Even when Ichika asks him to go to the museum with her, he refuses, saying that he will be busy on those days. Later, Ryou talks about it in a conversation with Masuda, who reprimands him by saying that it is incredibly unfair of him to run away like this after everything he has done to Ichika. One day, Ichika sees Ryou on the subway and tries to catch up with him. She finally screams and manages to get his attention. Ryou prevents him from falling down the stairs, as he had done several months ago. They both confess their love for each other. Ryou kisses Ichika and promises to wait until she is an adult.
Koi to Yobu ni wa ”could release original video animations or OVAs in the future that could illustrate the manga chapters that the anime might have skipped or show the relationship between Ryou and adult Ichika. However, for a true season 2 of “Koi to Yobu ni wa”, Mogusu must create a sequel to the manga series. If that doesn’t happen, it’s highly unlikely that “Koi to Yobu ni wa” season 2 will ever be released.
