King Charles III is reportedly still hoping for a reconciliation with his son Prince Harry and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle, despite the controversy and allegations her new Netflix docu-series Harry & Meghan entails. It is also claimed that the monarch has no plans to take their titles away from them, despite popular demand to do so.
A royal expert claims King Charles still hopes and believes a reconciliation is not far off before his coronation. However, the royal enthusiast characterized this approach as somewhat naïve.
In his report in the Daily Mail Dan Wooton revealed that a royal source claimed His Majesty had told his senior team that he was sad rather than angry at the Sussexes’ tirades against the monarchy. Therefore, he hopes that the problems within the royal family will be resolved in time.
Of the express however, noted that the king’s hopes seem to underestimate the couple’s alleged mission to destroy the institution of monarchy. As such, many courtiers believed the longest-serving heir to the throne should deliver a more aggressive response to the palace over the next few months with the release of Harry & Meghan and the Duke of Sussex’s forthcoming memoir, Spare.
They also reportedly wanted to respond to the damage done, especially in the knowledge that it could be difficult to counteract as it spreads internationally.
But despite the unfortunate turn of events, royal insiders say it’s very unlikely King Charles will strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their titles. First of all, the late Queen Elizabeth II presented the couple with their titles on their wedding anniversary on May 19, 2018.
Their critics stressed that they should be stripped of their titles after making multiple allegations against the royal family in the first three episodes of their docuseries. A source at the palace said opposite Page Sixthat King Charles would not even consider stripping their titles, finding it too petty and punitive.
The insider went on to say it would also lead Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to believe it was in retaliation, further showing they were never wanted in the royal family.
And even if the titles were taken away from them, the former Suits star would have another honorific title, Princess Henry, to follow royal protocol. Only princesses born into the royal family can use their first name. So since she is married to the prince, she will bear a title of princess and take her husband’s name.
One royal observer even pointed out that the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have titled their Netflix show Harry & Meghan could indicate that they are no longer using their titles voluntarily.
