Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Update: Missing update on new season leads to suspicion of major production delay

December 16, 2022

It was February 2022 when Jujutsu Kaisen first announced the coming of the second season of the anime. Nothing has been heard from Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 since then, leading many to suspect that there could be a major delay in production.

Few details about Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 have come out since the announcement. As the year draws to a close and Jump Festa 2023 is upon us, will there be a new update?

There are theories that the upcoming Jump Festa may not live up to fans’ expectations of the series’ return.

Studio MAPPA first announced season two earlier this year. There was also a key frame showing Gojo, Geto and Ieri as Jujutsu High students.

It was also revealed that the second season would follow the events of the manga and adapt the Gojo’s Past arc, with a release date of 2023. This arc follows the relationship between Gojo and Geto and his decision to join the wizarding community leaving and eventually becoming the antagonist in the prequel movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

In September, to commemorate TOHO’s 10th anniversary, a second image of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 was released, confirming that the series would consist of two parts and that the second half would deal with the Shibuya incident. So it could have 24 episodes, just like the first season.

The last update MAPPA made was on November 1st; the last time fans heard about the anime. With Jump Festa 2023 looming, other studios have already promoted their new content.

Unfortunately, MAPPA is keeping quiet on the matter, raising suspicions that season two may be delayed. The studio is known for taking on too many projects at once. So it may have trouble dividing its time and making several high-profile productions at the same time.

Add to that the recent scandal involving Geto’s voice actor, Takahiro Sakurai, and his sudden departure from the Jump Super Stage panel. The studio is probably looking for a new cast to replace him in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2.

But fans are still hoping for good news at Jump Festa, and one new teaser will do for them.

Meanwhile, there is no denying that just like other major anime series like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen is also a very popular shonen supernatural anime. The first season premiered in October 2020 and follows the story of Yuji Itadori, an incredibly strong high school student who enrolls at Tokyo Jujutsu High as a jujutsu magician’s apprentice.

There he becomes the host of a powerful curse spirit, Sukuna, who seeks to regain his physical form and conquer the world. That said, all eyes are now on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2.
